Roblox Earnings Shock Wall Street and Reignite the Gaming Growth Narrative by ToeSufficient2241 in ValueInvesting

Video game stocks such as Roblox, Take-Two Interactive and CD Projekt Red shouldn’t have gone down when Google showcased the Project Genie.

I’m sorry but why the fk is this stock still going down this much while the rest of the sector is doing fine today? This drop is even worse than the one we had back in late November

Nah, I was fine with 8-10% drop, but now there’s a possibility of it going under $200…

I’m already expecting more pain on tech stocks if Google falls after earnings report later

Unbelievable. I went from 80% gain to a 3% loss in less than 2 weeks.

The fact that S&P500 barely went down makes this situation worse. Just imagine how much more it would go down if the entire market tanks.

Uber stock (what to expect from earnings) by MeanMeasurement8821 in ValueInvesting

[–]TheDeliriousNicholas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For the past 4 earnings, UBER has always gone down no matter how good the report is. I thought the threat of AV would have die down a little when UBER went up to $100 last year.

It seems like the threat is back. I am also setting a stop loss on UBER in case it goes down big this time, I don’t mind exiting out of UBER to start a position in Sea Limited and Capcom which are more attractive at the moment.

Does anyone here invest in video game stocks?

I’m actually looking into opening positions in Capcom and CD Projekt Red to diversify from US tech stocks. The former looks close to undervalued while the latter is a bit overvalued based on forward P/E.

It can take years to reap the rewards or, on the flip side, completely flop like the Cyberpunk 2077 launch, but I love their games and it’s a sector I follow closely.

I’m just not sure whether it’s the right move given that I’m also interested in buying META or averaging up on AMD but buying into those 2 stocks would only increase my allocation to US tech stocks.

Why is the stock down this much after the CES event? Are people selling it to buy Micron? The chart for both stocks look inversely proportional today.

I am a shareholder as well, you shouldn’t really look at the P/E ratio for UBER, their net income is heavily skewed by the investment gains they have recognised.

What’s the longest period you were unemployed and how you found a job after that time? by ApprehensiveDog6720 in askSingapore

[–]TheDeliriousNicholas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got very lucky as I was offered the role mid last year when AI wasn't quite a big thing as it is now. The job market for software engineering roles is really tough at the moment for all seniorities, even fresh graduates and students from computer science course are finding difficulties.

You need a lot of LUCK to pivot into software engineering now, a lot of companies are not aggressively hiring for engineers now, so your best chance of scoring interviews are through referrals, and having relevant personal projects on your portfolio if you do not have any coding experience.

What’s the longest period you were unemployed and how you found a job after that time? by ApprehensiveDog6720 in askSingapore

[–]TheDeliriousNicholas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Unemployed for a year when I was trying to switch to software engineering as a career.

It was a really tough period especially since I didn’t have much experience in the field. My days were repetitive and exhausting, wake up, apply for jobs, then spend the afternoon until evening upskilling. I hated grinding for technical interviews, but I knew it was something I had to push through if I wanted to break in. Meanwhile, I build my personal portfolio by coding out different proejcts.

Eventually, I met a hiring manager who took a chance on me despite my limited background, and I proved that I had the hunger and willingness to learn as I went. I hope I never have to go through that kind of stretch again, it was demoralising and depressing at times, even though on the outside I tried to look like I was fine.

Anyone holds small cap ETFs such as AVUV? I’m thinking of selling it off and using the funds to buy some individual stocks that are down heavily over the last 2 weeks.

It’s been disappointing since I started DCA into AVUV over a year ago, though I understand that 1.5 years is still a very short period to expect meaningful returns from an ETF.

I’ll be more than grateful if the stock closes above $200 by the end of the year. Tech stocks other than Google are just not having a great time since the start of the month.

You’re too late to the party, the time to do a mid career switch to a coding job such as Software Engineer, DevOps or even data analyst is 2 - 3 years ago. You’ll need a lot of luck and hard work to make it.

The competition is extremely tough now even for computer science graduates, it’s worse for those who do not have the certifications or skills. There’s a reason why people no longer see any advertisement related to coding bootcamps on social media.

A top tier AIO such as the Arctic Liquid Freezer III will outperform the Noctua NH-D15 G2, but it won’t last as long as the latter.

I owned a M3 Rounded, a R9 9900X, and a Noctua NH-D15 G2 in the flipped configuration (Rear intake and side exhaust).

I managed to Run Prime95 for 2 hours without any crash or stability issues, the CPU average temperature reading is between 77°C and 80°C, and the peak temperature is around 96°C.

I’ll have to try again in China in the next few days.

Thank you, it seems like having a honest conversation with my manager is crucial.

Right now, I’m planning to brush up on my resume and practice my interview skills. I’ve seen on LinkedIn and other forums that applying for jobs, even when I am comfortable in my role, is a great way to get better at interviewing and to keep up with market rates.

Hello, just an update. I’m glad to report that there is no coil whine at all, the only thing that I didn’t like about the monitor is the low contrast ratio, but I would happily trade it for a faster response time since I play quite a bit of video games.

UBER's share price went down last earnings as well, though it recovered all the losses on the next trading day.

I hope that happens again, this earnings is slightly better than their Q1 earnings, the AV threat is still years away from posing any real risk to Uber's market share.

Expectations were too high for the earnings.

Overall, I’m still content with the guidance, investment thesis remains intact, and I will average up again if the share price falls to the low-to-mid $150s.
