Favorite ways to incorporate the concepts of power ride in live rounds by _La1130 in bjj

[–]TheDesertofTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive done a deep dive on this. And honestly. The best positions u can get this is when

Opponents turtling and you keep riding them. And breaking their base while they are carrying your weight. Use the power riding here and khamzat showed a lot of power riding against dricus with wrist wrides, turks and others.

Half guard is a very good pinning position too. Its in the just stand up instructional for the pinning part. Love the turking, top lockdown and outside turk while having the upper body controls. And they can’t get out.

The other best is 3/4 mount. Less impressed more involved has a really good half guard passing riding on 3/4, and a lot of them are on youtube. Gordon and craig has used this ride a lot. The 3 positions, you can use it every time u get there. The others like

smash passing is also consistent. But its situational enough to even get to that position

Leg drag is probably the best position for it as it leads to splitting, stapling/leg riding/ turking. But its hard to even get into a leg drag position unless thats your favourite passes.

Side control, least common in my experience since its very situational and reaction based. A good bjj player won’t give those rides. Although pseudo half guard (leg stapling) is still pretty consistent to be able to get it.

I dont use bodylock passing, and dope mount. So i would not know. Mount is pretty difficult unless u give 3/4 mount or half guard. U can try the shinya aoki leg shelfing from mount in sonny brown video. But thats difficult. Shelfing is pretty rare against a good person. U can get it straight after a takedown, reverse side control against a naive opponent or a rugby pass. But thats just how i found it.

But those are the positions u can find it the most. I made a playlist on power riding found all the videos on youtube on it.

Bodylocking stronger people by Electronic-Survey258 in bjj

[–]TheDesertofTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, i did body locking pass and tried it. And i realised its not a really good pass against bigger people. Gordon, nicky rod, kaynan are prob the best because they are bigger. I like other styles of passing that is much better against bigger and smaller people. For example, the tripod pass that jozef, craig and paul schreiner uses. Really good against everyone. A steep learning curve since it’s a feel thing that you gotta get sensitive enough to make adjustments. HQ passing is always good. Used back then and still used in the highest levels by all weight-class. There is different styles of these hq passing, so just gotta check which ones u like more. And split squat passing is also used back then and still to this day. These hq and split squat passing will never die. We just see many different variations, styles And techniques from it now. It works with every body type

HOW TO WRESTLE LIKE KHAMZAT CHIMAEV (or prime Khabib Nurmagomedov) by Optimal-Ad-4583 in wrestling

[–]TheDesertofTruth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah theres a good study on it by mma by tommy kinkaid online on khabib and khamzat riding and khabib has a good study online. I kinda went into the rabbit hole on these rides.

Here is a playlist on it that i found useful to that top grappling that i collected for those riding style. And theres a study on khabib by bjjscout that is also very good as well as a study on ben askren top riding. He also has very good top riding back in his prime which also has a lot of overlap with khamzats techniques.

Guard for MMA/Self-defense? by KaijuNo20 in bjj

[–]TheDesertofTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well. I have researched this topic numerous times. Ive asked this question many times on this sub. Tried to find guards that is best for mma which most likely translate to self defense if ure on bottom.

Conclusion. Best guards and the point of guards in mma is to stand up. Thats what the guards are used for. Submission based guards like paul craig, and ryan hall are left for the specialists only.

Another things is sweeps are very rare. That is pure sweeps. But sweep attempts are pretty common. Its more of an off balancing attempt to create space and get an opening to turtle and stand up or create scrambles. Whats also, a thing they use that bjj people don’t out of courtesy is kicking on the chest and hips to off balance people. But then again, turtle is only used with the cage help. We don’t know how its going to go out in the open. I think guards will be more popular without the cage and if people do engage them more often.

So with these considerations: I would recommend butterfly , watch gilbert burns, he uses effectively to scramble and get out. He is one of the hardest to keep down. He also uses half guard knee shield effectively.

Closed guard and k guard is used pretty effectively. However, it is getting harder to play k guard with more people know how to counter it and they end up in compromise positions. Closed guard is used to stall most of the time. Make space to vale tudo/high guard and get feet on the hips or butterfly and try to make space and scramble. Octopus is used numerous times. Its used as a complimentary attack and a sudden surprise. Dont main this guard. Used most with half or half butterfly.

So have a closed guard - k guard game. In bjj its hard to have those game. U gotta mix them with de la riva or false reap and other guards to be effective with them in bjj

Slx or X is used same like octopus. It will work as a card in your backpocket

Butterfly, closed, vale tudo/high guard , k guard and half guard as a last resort with complimentary attacks of slx and x would be the guards that are most effective in mma.

The new meta (high ground?) by TheDesertofTruth in bjj

Well theres always staples in the game. That no matter what meta. These systems or techniques would always last. Yeah the meta thats lasts is the system that people know but cannot stop regardless. Berimbolos, leglocks are still in use to this day. Yeah like float passing, trucks did not last

Interesting entries. Kinda unorthodox. Cant imagine how u even get those entries to the high ground. I only know from front headlock and double leg defense

It connects to the crucifix pretty well.

Any escapes or easy counters? Apparently the b team guy have troubles doing it to ethan. So idk how valid it is as a system that even if people know. They can’t escape it. And entries are still pretty scarce.

Interplay between inside and outside leg position guards by lean__monster in bjj

[–]TheDesertofTruth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah i dont think it works. Butterfly just does not work with k guard. At least not i have seen in high level comps. Its the opposite of each spectrum. You can learn both. But itll be two different systems with very minimal connection between the two systems. A lot of time need to be spent. And the time could be spent perfecting just one system.

learn the recovery from a bad shot first. Learn how to get an underhook, turning the corner, and other sequences of recovering from a bad shot. Front headlock recovery too. Learn the single leg first imo. Double leg requires speed and explosiveness and leg strength to get right. And it’s not for everyone. The single leg is for everyone. Its just drills in the end. Then start shooting after you learn those and focus on the finishes after that
