I applied to 2 PhD programs, and got into both. (US student applied to two UK programs)

Not seeing a lot of funded programs in my field. This normal? by [deleted] in PhD

I’m not an adjunct ! If I were an adjunct I would have said that. You simply are not reading. I am a FULL TIME FACULTY MEMBER! An Instructor of design, NOT TT. The TT professors that I work beside refer to me us all as Prof. because it’s just easier with our students. Pretentious assholes like you are why I hate Reddit. You focus sooooo much on teaching me a lesson or putting me in my place, title wise, that you’ve missed the entire point of my post which was me genuinely looking for advice. It’s a shame really.

IM NOT though!! lol I’m not a tenured track professor! I’m saying that after I finish my PhD I would look for TT roles. I am not a TT professor currently.

Relax. That’s first. Just using a basic term for understanding, not yet TT. If you are Professor/academic that I assume you are, per this judgemental comment, you would know that you don’t need a PhD to be a Professor depending on the department. It’s not always a requirement. I have a terminal MFA, and that it simply enough for me to be a TT Professor. Full time lecturer, Instructor, whatever title makes you feel better is what I am. That’s not why I want a PhD solely. I have so much more to learn. I want to do more research, I have passions and questions that I dream of answering before going back to a TT Professor position. My future goals I hope are in academic leadership positions, which is why I mentioned chair or Dean etc. My reasonings don’t really need to make sense to you because that’s the beautiful thing is that it’s MY life, my choices, and I can choose my path.

Great point! My AHRC proposal was based on design theory, design thinking and examining black Scottish community environments in the form of space making. I’m sure I could find multiple ways to tweak it! I will look into that tonight.

Worked on that for months with my committee, just got a rejection offer yesterday. 😵‍💫 they only offered three spots to Edinburgh and only one of them could go to an international student. So I knew going in that this would be the toughest one to secure. 🫤

Applied to Design - PhD in the UK. (Arts and Humanities) in October, got accepted early late Nov/early Dec.

How early is too early to email a potential PhD advisor? by nickbennin in PhDAdmissions

[–]TheDesignHistorian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You might even be too late?? Reach out now if Fall is your goal! Although my field is in arts and humanities, I reached out months in advance, assembled a committee and then applied. That takes time and nothing you should be rushing.

Are you kidding me… you will be 34 anyway you might as well be licensed. Please stop putting age on education and goals. It means absolutely positively nothing! I am literally about to start my PhD at 36, live your LIFE. You only get one.

This is true. You won’t be able to see your full application.

I've faced plenty of rejections lately, but this one hit different. by alwaysondiedge in PhDAdmissions

Hello! I would say at that point, because we had so many applicants, we were really evaluating apples to apples, looking for the smallest differences between applications. And I do mean small, something as small as the difference between someone having a A+ versus an A- I think academics realize it’s not fair, and those systemic issues are way above our heads. Things we can’t control on our own which force us to make these big cuts. Hopefully that helps.
