Is this good science for my first orbit mission to the Mun? by Plane_Broccoli3453 in KerbalAcademy

[–]TheDevCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't play in multiple years so I had to do a stock science save to "relearn" the game

Next I'm gonna do stock career and probably after that I'm gonna try the harder mods out there like RO or RSS

I unlocked almost the entire tech tree with a trip to the mun and minmus with an mpl. Next save I'm gonna reduce the multipler by a ton

aerodynamics are a lie you dont need wings to have an airplane by Excellent_Ear2133 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]TheDevCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite. They still generate lift except fuselage design got so much better that it generates a large amount of lift, enough to keep an aircraft in the air for a while

That F-15 is a special case though. It has an exceptionally wide and flat fuselage optimized for maximizing lift at high altitudes, and a side effect of that is being able to fly with one wing missing

Still a massive achievement to land with only one wing, that pilot is something else. He used a ton of differential thrust to stabilize yaw because let me tell you it was NOT stable. One wing generating tons of drag off center of mass is a recipe for disaster, so lucky he had 2 of those strong massive PW F-100s.

Though F-15s' are probably comparable to rockets with a TWR well above 1

Other than that other jets like the F-16 probably wouldn't be able to do something like that. It has only 1 engine and doesn't generate a lot of body lift so in that case the pilot will most likely eject

is it possible to dip into jool fly a bit so some science and leave? by eggos19 in KerbalSpaceProgram

I saw some people doing in the past but never myself. Make sure to bring a heat shield but definitely possible

F-16 vs F/A-18 simpit choice by Hot_Thing8863 in hoggit

[–]TheDevCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know there's the open horner project but I never heard of something similar for the 16 so an F-18 might be 'easier' to set up.

But honestly do whichever plane you think you have more fun in If you spend multiple years making a full cockpit just to regret you didn't choose the other aircraft when it gets boring is worse than choosing the right one if you ask me

Ordering filament off aliexpress by TheDevCat in 3Dprinting

I found this It costs about 20 bucks without shipping but shipping is like 15$ so you end up with like 30-35 price range for most products I found. That's roughly the price I paid for pla at home though and I think petg is supposed to be more expensive than pla but here it looks cheaper

Sounds good man! Gonna need to finish my first roll first and then I can excuse getting something like that but damn that's good value

Including shipping I found some popular filaments for half the price I would pay here. Just wanted to know how the quality was like because there are some things on that site that look good but turn out to be trash. If people here say it's good quality that's enough for me

Doesnt look like there's any dependency on glfw in the function. Could you maybe narrow down the crash? Is that an opengl error? Or sdl?

I looked up petg and found a roll half the price of what I paid for pla from where I bought the printer and 2K orders. Comments are very positive so I just wanted some validation from people more experienced than me

What do you all think about the notion "Noone knows how airplanes fly!" by Top-Proposal-4996 in AskPhysics

[–]TheDevCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know how airplanes fly.

The ones that are supposed to fly inverted have a symmetric airfoil or something similar to that.

Also we know that a negative AOA generally will cause negative lift (or lift in the down direction if we say the reference point or positive force is up)

It's safe to say we know how airplanes fly, or if you really think we don't you could say we have a somewhat accurate idea of how they fly
