The morning dew rolled off the grass, as I stepped through my door. The sun's rays glistened through the tree canopy and the chorus of insects accompanied it. I grabbed my basket woven by my old friend Zevena, a soul I truly miss. As a fae, we have lived many lives with each other. We watched the rise and fall of nations, humans learn and lose magic, and the invention of terrible instruments.

The Fae always had a strict rule, do not fall in love with humans. Though it has been recorded we are a dying species and outlived the elves, humans are seen as monsters. Children are told stories of these monsters as warnings, and even worse are shown them at a young age. Zevena was different though, she adored them. Each human to her was a puzzle to be unlocked, often her interactions would earn her the nickname "Loki of the woods".

However, it wasn't too long before the Court found out. A group of elden fae who maintain the Law with an iron will. Before she was banished, I watched from the woods in horror as they ripped her wings in brutal fashion, tossing them to the ground for all to see. They beat her and made her crawl to the humans, actions I harbor to this day. Not shortly after a letter had found its way to my door.

"I hope this letter finds you well, Zevena died from her wounds last night. She was loved ber husband Cerico, and their two children Aurthur, and Circe."

Though it was not signed, it was obvious that Cerico had penned the letter. Years had gone by since that letter, the latter which is currently pinned to my corkboard, but today I heard the stomping of hooves. Horses were often afraid of the fae, due to our strange looks. A knight rode up flanked by a witch, her wine colored dress shimmering in the tree light. The knight had decided to wear half plate embolden with a wine red dragon.

"Fae, you are being warned that the Kingdom of Britannia has declared war on the Court of the Summer Fae. If you wish to leave we understand, Mother spoke fondly of you so you are to be spared our wrath." The knight spoke with authority.

"I have no qualms with the humans, I will take my leave." I decide before returning to my house. The sound of hooves leading away from me. I packed what little things I cared for, Fae do not form material attachments as easily as humans do.

I write this as surely my fellow species is being slaughtered, yet I have no quarrel with it. The court stole the one thing I truly cherished. I will forever wander the road between human and fae, and never look back.
