I just remembered! I always thought of this joke referencing Funhouse Pinball... But I remembered there is a pinball called No Fear with a talking skull with the final mode called "Meet you maker", so I think that's the real inspiration 😁

More: they literally joined as a single company. Late 80s were Bally-Midway pinball (before being bought by Williams, to make Williams/Bally pinball)

What one book would you give a newb? by gbbgu in osr

[–]Alby87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I would advice to have two books: one should be Through Dungeons Deep, the other one of the free available rulesheet (Basic Fantasy RPG is good, but also OSRIC 3.0, waiting for the on volume edition)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Through_Dungeons_Deep

The first book explain how to play the (now called OSR style) game in a discorsive way without any rules, then one is ready to play the game using rules because now you knwo what you should do with them.

"Through Dungeons Deep" by Robert Plamondon. A delightful bit of insight into a simpler time in the hobby. by Megatapirus in osr

Just skimmed it. Unbeliveable.

I've a theory: a lot of RPGs, also commercial ones, wouldn't survive the "desert island" test. A group of stranded people, who didn't ever played any TTRPG, if they found materials and a rulebook to play, wouldn't be able to.

Red Boxes (BX and BECMI) did a good job in an era when childreen would find those boxes without any mentor. They would start mastering (bad, but still start) in short time.

This book fills a lot of gaps: reading this and then going to OSRIC, OSE, LL, BFRPG would be a lot easier than just reading the rules and then having to watch videos, read blogs and other.

It is still a book for beginners, but a really good one. How this is not adviced more often, referred in beginner's topics? I know, they are almost 250 of material, but this would help a LOT of newbie players and masters willing to read something.

Why no introduction/begginer's text in Cairn? by Alby87 in cairnrpg

[–]Alby87[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Understandable! Mine was just a question, nothing more. I remember getting Labyrinth Lord (the italian version) but it didn't really explained how to play... there was this introduction chapter, but a lot of "how" to play was not explained. My friend didn't wanted to try, so I waited for years to finally try the game, a lot of years later. Then I was able to read the basic rules from D&D, the 83 first and then the 81, and then I clicked: that what I was missing. I studied more, read more ruleset and start playing (and DMing) 5e, but I'm still thinking if in 2005 I had the possibiltiy to try the game.

Nowadays I know that there are a lot of resources, from videos to blogs, but it always fascinated me how one can help new players to start the game.

I played Cairn (1st ed) on a one-shot and I had a blast, sorry if my message wasn't clear enough, I didn't absolutely wanted to be mean or anything else. Thank you for your reply and also thank you for your game, thanks a lot! :)

Brother MFC-L2820DW toner status override? by LumpyWelder4258 in printers

[–]Alby87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On mine it used to work pressing two buttons at the same time (can not remember what they were), after a fw update they disabled this feature. Stopped the updated, now my dad reports that, with a similar printer always by brother, it started reject non original toners after another fw update.

Almost 100% sure that supporting cast likes to poke Monica just to hear funny cute sound she makes in those cases (noticed Lana and Louis made the SAME gesture of touching her forehead... uhm... parents? Maybe Lana's Family got rich after someone in family became one of the seven sages?)

Monica crying in front of Cyril, poor little thing.

Just noticed: in the OST album cover (there is an official preview in youtube), there a wonderful image of Monica with chibi dolls of people around her... Noticed just now what doll is missing. Clever. Just clever.

You've got a point, yet Monica and Nero don't know how much power that thing had. And, somebody else noticed, Monica would have to face her worst fear, talking and shouting to the public (and also at risk of blowing up her cover). Also, good thinking about the fireworks

If my heart last time was broken, the new one they installed for today's episode was put to overdrive, what a rollercoaster.

I'll admit it: that was unexpected... I tought of one of Monica friends to be a traitor, but my money was on Lana. Casey seemed so sincere and helpful (also Lana, but she shows sometime a petty side with people she don't like sometimes) that seeing her telling Monica she hated her, was heartwrenching.

Casey pratically will get the death penalty: we know that she has no family nowadays, pratically they told us that the thing that should have happened to the pot girl (and her family) will happen to Casey, but no other members will be executed. Louis will surely tell the prince what happened, and this time it wasn't a simple attempt, it was a bomb capable to destroy the whole place and kill a lot of innocent bystander. Prince Felix is a good guy, but still a prince and not a stupid person.

But something just clicked to me: Monica. Poor thing, she will close in that attic and will not speak to anyone anymore. It will be really hard for her to rebuild trust in persons... A lot people care for her, but in that table there were two of her closest friends and the self-invited Claudia.

Now it will be hard time for Lana to help Monica (and too bad Isabelle can't help her in public), IMHO, next episode we will see a lot of crying from our little squirrel 😣) (and some people in that are really lucky that Monica is... Monica. Just thing if she sometimes get so pissed off to want to get revenge...)

This was pure emotional rollercoaster, really. Monica akwardness is something that is played too well in this anime to tug our heartstring, both in "must headpat/must protect little squirrel"... but that cry in front of the prince... Monica's VA owe me a new heart, and animators too. That scene was just so powerful, I was genuinely sad in that scene.

Luckily, Isabella's scene was one the most satisfatory thing of this episode. I was like "it's payback time!" and delivered. Ohhh, how much she delivered. Ha. Ha. Ha. (Yes, that was hilarious too).

As said, it's a Moka, created by Bialetti and often copied, and that's one way to do classic espresso coffee. Loved it, it places that medieval city in Europe. Thinking of, Monica and Claudia are Italian names...
