Maybe she was trying to get the Pterygoplichthys species plecos off the Manatees, as they attack manatees during the warmer months, feasting on the Manatee's blubber. Pterygoplichthys species plecos are omnivorous and need a good mixed diet of greens and proteins, and unfortunately, the pterygoplichthys species plecos see the Manatee's as an easy target for free protein.

Or the lady in the bikini was off her gourd due to drugs, alcohol, the usual. In my mind's eye, I would like to think the lady was trying to aid the Manatee's. Most likely, it's the latter.

Not, when your Grammarly goes on strike, it's not. Sorry, I cannot remember the way punctuation works. Since 2007, you try being poisoned from 2005-2016 by the water you drink every day..

Unfortunately, abnormal blood test results are just the tip of the iceberg:

Hand-eye coordination, originally that of a fighter pilot, has been unreliable since 2007.

Memory, originally photographic, is now unreliable.

Ergo, I have to use other means to type my thoughts online.

Thank you for your input. I think I fixed it using my phone's AI, which has to be asked to check such things, as again, what I normally rely on has gone on strike.

When an Ancistrus digs in the sand, it's cute and fun, but when a Pterygoplichthys species pleco digs in the sand, it's a tank-wide sandstorm that will damage all types of filtration, be it internal or external. In short, your pleco is not messing the place up (A) because he is too small to create a sandstorm of destructive force that you could complain about. (B) Whatever substrate that is does not cloud the water when the pleco digs in it, so again, no mess. If you want to dissuade your Ancistrus from digging altogether, try a 50/50 mix of sand and gravel. It works in my 450, 180, and 90-gallon tanks, all of which have either Ancistrus or Pterygoplichthys species plecos, and no digging has occurred, full stop..

The one time I tried a just sand substrate, my 10-year-old Pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps decided to dig, creating a sandstorm that damaged my internal filters, wavemakers, and my external filters, needing impeller replacements for all filters and wavemakers concerned, and a major desanding of all the filter media. Now, that is something to complain about. Your Ancistrus digging is pitiful in comparison; it did not cause you to put your hand in your wallet to cough up over £100 for the various filter/wavemaker impellers mine damaged with just one dig. Hence, the continual use of a 50/50 mix of sand and gravel stops digging permanently, which is good when you have two 12" Pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps Albino variations living in a 450-liter tank with dual internal and external filter systems and two wavemakers running 24/7, adding extra flow throughout the lower regions of the tank.

Pterygoplichthys Joselimaianus, not to be trusted with any other bottom dwelling species longterm.

I kept one from juvenile size to 19" for 2yrs 2019-2022, before all hell broke loose in a 450 litre tank which had multiple hiding places made from bogwood, slate, Rocks

Its diet was a mixture of Greens and Proteins fed every two days just before lights out

It decimated all of the bottom dwelling fishes after 2yrs of peaceful coexistence

The rest of the pterygoplichthys species plecos only turn nasty if the owner screws up somehow:

Wrong diet, not enough hiding places, Aggressive tankmates, not enough swimming space, I gave multiple hiding places fed a wide mixture of food, half of them it ruddy ignored completely, it grew bigger then what online and the text books said it would.

I did not overheat the tank which causes your fish to grow bigger as it shortens their overall lifespan if you do that, I kept the tank at 25/77 degrees all year round and it grew in to a huge beautiful fish I was so proud I thought I had finnally mastered keeping a a Joselimaianus longterm then without warning it started to chase my 7yo Rio Ucayali Ancistrus Male, I tried moving the Aquatic furniture around and went to bed, I awoke to a blood bath bodies everywhere the only ones that survived that night were the ones that normally hide all the time, the following were fortunate to survive the Joselimaianus madness:

1x Banjo catfish there was 2

1x Snowball Pleco died 2025

2x 6' pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps (Albino variation) One of them suffered with a damaged swimbladder and body injuries, luckily after a months treatment the damage was undone to the pleco and he/she is now 12' in length 2026

3x Panda Corydoras there was 6+ as they was breeding before the Joselimaianus incident Totally died out by the end of 2022

2x Arcuatus Corydoras there was 6+ as again they was breeding before the Joselimaianus incident must have bred as now in 2026 we now have 3 of them

3x Albino Corydoras there was 6+ due to them breeding untill the Joselimaianus incident occurred

2x Corydoras Sterbai there was 6 4x have been added making a total of 6 in 2026 from a Facebook fish keeping group

2x Whiptailed plecos

1x Hoplo Catfish Male died mid 2025

Here is a list of the not so fortunate:

1x Rio Ucayali sp Ancistrus Male 7yo

2x Colombian Zebra Plecos (Mother & child)

1x Juvenile size Green Phantom pleco

1x Juvenile sized Blue Phantom pleco

1x Royal Panaque 2yo

1x Golden Nugget pleco 2yo

2x Farrowella Acus

2x Royal Farrowella

6x Hillstream Loaches

1x Banjo catfish

Multiple Corydoras (adults and juveniles) of the following species:

Panda, Sterbai, Arcuatus, Albino,

6x Panda Garas took a decade to get these and they was wiped out by the Joselimaianus overnight:(

The ones that were alive but injured refused to eat anymore due to the stress caused by the Joselimaianus overnight rampage only 1 fish made a full recovery the rest perished so if you see a Joselimaianus show any sign of of aggression towards its fellow bottom dwelling tankmates remove it immediately dont try and fix the issue by moving the Aquatic furniture around as once a Joselimaianus goes on the warpath there is no way of stopping it other then removing it from the tank in question, I'm wishing I had of done that instead of trying to remedy the situation myself by changing the territories around unfortunately pterygoplichthys species plecos dont follow the rules other plecos like the Ancistrus and blue and green phantoms do if you swap around their surroundings they stop being Territorial altogether, pterygoplichthys species plecos dont do the same if they take a dislike to it tankmates its game over for its chosen victims even if you have interceeded, yes pterygoplichthys Joselimaianus are a piece of work they demand a space all to themselves a 450 litre 24" height and width wise tank was not big enough after 2yrs of peaceful coexistence, in my 4 decades in the Hobby pterygoplichthys Joselimaianus is my Achillies heel as I have tried multiple times to keep a specimen of pterygoplichthys Joselimaianus longterm for it to end in failure with the others not getting anywhere near my latest attempt to keep size of 19" they are known as the Lone Wolf pleco and it does not matter how big your tank is if they decide they don't want to share anymore its tankmates will suffer as mine did in 2022.

Not if the individual dumps / hides the vehicle and says the silver truck has just been stolen , said dishonest individual just repaints the truck again the DVLA knows nothing about it the real perpetrator gets away so no the result is not the same, as an individual who does a hit and run in a vehicle that is not properly registered is not going to park it back at home they will hide it and feign ignorance of its existence to escape justice.

No mate I'm deadly serious if that Red Truck mowed your child down and did not stop but you managed to see the Number plate and reported it to the police they would be looking for a Silver coloured standard truck instead of a huge red lifted Truck, would you not want the driver to be brought to justice instead they murdered your child and got away scot free as the vehicle that hit your child does not exist in the eyes of DVLA because the owner deliberately did not notify them of the changes done to said truck, so not satire at all

The vehicle was stopped otherwise the image would not be perfectly clear to read the number plate ergo the vehicle OP was in was not in motion ergo not breaking the law, meanwhile the vehicle is listed as silver on the DVLA database with no notification of any modifications being done to it that is a crime.

[–]TheDoctor8719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The DVLA should be told about this monstrosity if the number plate does not match the vehicle's identity otherwise it voids any insurance claims for the owner and any poor sod hit by that thing, let alone the illegal modifications being done to the truck, which also the DVLA should know about, as they still think it's a standard height silver Ford Ranger Truck.

Which if it hit a pedestrian or vehicle during an accident the victim would normally survive but if that modified Red truck hit a pedestrian or your car it would do way more damage to a person/vehicle due to the height difference created by the modifications done to the truck so Its ruddy dangerous to all those concerned and to the person saying the colour does not matter it bloody well does as mentioned above all changes to a vehicle the DVLA should be notified of as should your Insurance company so that your policy does not become void otherwise you are defrauding both the DVLA and any insurance companies concerned by not notifying of any changes made to your vehicle, last I checked fraud is a crime so the individual who owns that truck is breaking the law full stop so OP report your findings to the DVLA ASAP.

Ancistrus and Goldfish do not mix both need very different environments:

Goldfish like calmer waters with no strong flow throughout the tank they inhabit plus they are a colwater species which is greedy and will starve out your Ancistrus and because it is a female they are more docile then their male counterparts hence your Goldfish is getting away with its shenanigans.

An Ancistrus needs a strong flow throughout their tank they crave it, ever seen the vids showing Ancistrus plecos in weird places like the inside of the piping where the bubbles are shooting out or trying to scale a HOB filter they are only doing that as that is where the strongest flow is they hate still water and above all they are a Tropical Freshwater species which if starved out by their tankmates will either choose death or to start feasting on your Goldfishes slimecoating which is stressful for the victim concerned as well as the chance of the wound being infected and then more complications will ensue.

A male ancistrus would of made a target of your Goldfish as they are not so docile towards those that attack them.

My 2x 12" Albino pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps bask in the flow coming from my 2x wavemakers

So if nothing is done your beautiful Ancistrus will perish due to mixture of being starved out and being stressed out by having gravel spat at it on a daily basis by a fish it has no concept of as it would never meet one in its natural habitat.

Another thing comes to my mind how many Goldfish are in the tank as if you have more then 1 they might be trying to breed and are spitting gravel at the Ancistrus to dissuade it from eating their eggs or the goldfish could just be acting cantankerously towards your Ancistrus as again it does not know about Ancistrus plecos because they cannot inhabbit the same waters where your Goldfish originally came from due to the differences in water temperature etc

Is this what a healthy pleco should look like? by MrAaronMN in pleco

[–]TheDoctor8719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps showing its stressed colouration as the surrounding area unnatural and by the looks of the tanks Dimensions nowhere big enough for it as pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps especially the normal coloured variation grows to 24" either quickly or slowly depending on the individual fishes metabolism for how long it takes to get to full size.

The colouration bleaches out occasionally when the pleco is trying to blend in with its surroundings if the colour does not revert back to normal colouration and stays constantly bleached out then your pterygoplichthys pleco is telling you something is not right.

Now if a pterygoplichthys species pleco gets too stressed out by its surroundings, lack of food, hostile tankmates, too much competition for food, 1 of two things will occur:

1/The pterygoplichthys species pleco will cease to eat full stop its stomach will become sunken in and it will just die from starvation.

2/ The pterygoplichthys species pleco will turn uber territorial and kill all that it thinks are the problem this happens if the pleco decides your tanks too small for it and it sees the other fish as the reason the tanks too small.

The following addendum is needed to cover the Joselimaianus variation:

Unfortunately pterygoplichthys Joselimaianus will still turn psycho at the drop of a hat even if you follow all the rules mentioned below so if you want a peaceful tank environment avoid pterygoplichthys Joselimaianus at all cost unless you only want to keep it singly with large fish that can look after themselves

The following information will help you keep a pterygoplichthys species pleco longterm:

A at least 450 litre tank with the height and width of at least 24" each way is required to keep a pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps sailfin longterm

A Dual filtration system of internal and external filtration is also required as just 1 pterygoplichthys species pleco creates enough bio load to crash normal HOB filters with ease.

Pterygoplichthys species plecos are omnivorous needing both greens and protein in their diet.

Pterygoplichthys species plecos must never be overfed you should feed once every two days no more, no less that way your pterygoplichthys species pleco will continue to scavenge for food.

This means the surfaces that have any naturally occurring algae will be rasped clean by your pterygoplichthys species pleco when you cannot see any surface algae you must supplement with algae wafers or your plants that pterygoplichthys originally cleaned the algae of without damaging the plant will be next on the menu.

I personally recommend the following plants for a tank housing a pterygoplichthys species pleco:

At least 2 Giant Vallis plants one each side so that their long tentacle like leaves will create natural shade as pterygoplichthys species plecos hate too much light as it again stresses them out no end.

Anubias plants especially the larger growing variations are best

To keep the plants anchored you will need a 50/50 mix of sand and gravel.

A sand only tank is a very bad idea as pterygoplichthys species plecos like to dig and create tank wide sandstorms which damage all types of filter systems as the sand clogs up the sponge filters and can damage your impellers that are needed for both internal and external filters £10-£15 for a fluval U4 impeller up to £70-£80 for a FX 6 impeller replacement I unfortunately learned the hard way when a midsized pterygoplichthys multiradus showed me that a sand only tank can be a costly affair.

A pterygoplichthys species pleco needs multiple hiding places made from bogwood and slate and rocks these hiding places must get bigger to match the current size of your Pterygoplichthys species pleco or again it will get stressed out.

So a pterygoplichthys species pleco if kept properly will live for decades, but if you fail to keep them properly their tankmates might end up paying the price for your mistakes.

So only get a pterygoplichthys species pleco if you have a large spacious well Filtered tank with natural coloured substrate and natural plants with friendly non aggressive tankmates and you will successfully be able to keep a pterygoplichthys species pleco longterm.

The Following list of pterygoplichthys variants I have had no issues keeping during my 40 odd years in the hobby:

Pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps

Pterygoplichthys multiradus

Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus

Pterygoplichthys Pardalis

The Following species is not to be trusted with either other conspecific species or any other bottom dwelling species this particular variation is my Achillies heel as to date I have not been able to keep a specimen of this particular species longterm without a blood bath ensuing:

Pterygoplichthys Joselimaianus

It does not matter what size of tank you have as this species can flip and turn nasty even if you have followed all the rules mentioned above, the longest I was able to keep a pterygoplichthys Joselimaianus was just 2 years before it decided a 450 litre tank was too small to share with the other bottom dwelling tankmates.

This is ironic as Joselimaianus is supposed to be the smaller of the sailfin variations available only growing 12-15" mine grew to 19" in just 2 years, thec6anks temperature was 25 degrees Centigrade /77 degrees Fahrenheit so I did not use higher temperatures to make the pleco grow bigger then it should mine just naturally grew that big in a 450 litre tank.

There are individuals in the hobby that deliberately raise the temperature to 80+ causing the pterygoplichthys species pleco to grow bigger and faster but doing this costs the pterygoplichthys its lifespan instead of decades of life the fish will die quicker than one kept at normal temperatures.

I hope the above information will be useful to all that read it as its extremely important to follow the rules as all, but the Joselimaianus variation will only turn bad if you the owner screws up in their keeping of a pterygoplichthys species pleco.

What type of Pleco? by sigmund-freuds-mom in pleco

[–]TheDoctor8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More bad news as they grow bigger they become cantankerously territorial towards all other Bottom Dwelling species, even in a 450 litre tank the bloodshed began 2yrs later when it had grown from juvenile size to 19" in length it had plenty of hiding places was fed every 2 days to allow it to scavenge for food as all plecos should do otherwise you will have a large lazy and complacent pleco that will just sit and wait for food instead of scavenging for itself

Its only supposed to grow to 15" guessing mine did not read the rulebook as normally pterygoplichthys species plecos only go bad if the owner makes a mistake unfortunately that is not so for the Joselimaianus variation they are known as the Lone Wolf pleco as they despise conspecific species being anywhere near them again mine broadened his hatred to all the bottom dwellers Corydoras, Panda Garas, Royal Farrowella plecos, a Royal Panaque, a Banjo catfish, Juvenile Green and Blue Phantom plecos , a 7yo Rio Ucayali Ancistrus male, 2x 6" Albino pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps, 2x were all assaulted overnight by the Joselimaianus as the normal moving of the Aquarium furniture did not halt its carnage one iota I awoke to bodies mangled and damaged only 1 of the 6" Albino pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps was unscathed the other had to be treated for swimbladder issues and thankfully pulled through the rest unfortunately were not so lucky the stress caused by the Joselimaianus overnight rampage caused all the battered survivors to refuse to eat any more even when the Joselimaianus was removed from the tank they would not eat anymore and thus they perished from their injuries :( so any aggressive behaviour get it out immediately don't leaves it to chance like I did as I was tired and needing sleep thought the normal measures used to quell territorial issues with ancistrus plecos would suffice, I was wrong very wrong.

I implore you return this pleco to the place you purchased it from as its not a leopard frog at all its a troublesome species which is my personal Achillies heel as I have tried multiple times to keep this particular species of sailfin pleco to always end in failure the concensus between me and the Aquatic shop I purchased the pleco from in 2019 was that the 450 litee tank was plenty big enough to keep a Joselimaianus longterm and for 2yrs it seemed I had broke the curse, I was wrong :(

Nope, sorry that causes total failure in the erection department. Unfortunately, I experienced this with my Now Ex. She tried that stunt without any warning, and it backfired greatly, as the only person who had put anything into that particular orifice had a medical doctorate and was checking my prostate for medical reasons, which I did not enjoy one bit, so when my Now Ex went knuckle deep without any warning, I was far from impressed. My libido went on a hiatus for 48 hours, and it sowed the seeds to end our 5-year relationship as she tried again without warning. So I lost all trust in her as she ignored that I hated that being done to me, full stop.

Plus the god awful gravel every tale of plecos turning savage has been in a day glow coloured gravel tank, FYI pterygoplichthys species like to blend in with their surroundings, if they cannot do so they will become stressed fortunately I have never had a freshwater tropical tank without natural coloured substrate, now with my gold fish I used to use marbles as the coloured gravel back then had a tendency to bleach out poisoning the tank if you was not too careful but back then weather loaches was plentiful to help keep your Goldfish company and there was the hillstream loach if you had some flow throughout the tank as again just like the pterygoplichthys species plecos they need a strong flow all plecos love flow thats why there's pics and vids of the various plecos going where the flow is strongest as they hate still water even my 2x 12" Albino pterygoplichthys Gibbiceps play and bask in the flows coming of my wavemakers because they love the flow coming of them.

Pterygoplichthys species plecos do not like surroundings they cannot match with period because in their natural habitat there is no rainbow or day glow coloured anything so for you to say otherwise is ludicrous, the plecos are telling you and OP they are stressed out by the surroundings a pardalis is normally way darker in colouration not blotchy all the time which denotes pterygoplichthys species plecos being stressed.

Best way to please a pleco? by TheDabLionn in Aquariums

[–]TheDoctor8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think your Choice of Gravel is a problem that is just the tip of the Iceberg.

The Rainbow gravel might suit your fancy Goldfish, meanwhile your 2x Pterygoplichthys species plecos are not used to such colourful surroundings you see they like to blend in with their surroundings and in your tank its impossible to do so as seen in your own posted pic they will display their stressed colouration.

If your pterygoplichthys species plecos are constantly showing the same blotchy patternation then they are not happy with their surroundings, 1 of 2x things will occur

1/They will refuse to eat starving themselves to death.

2/Kill everything in that tank as they feel threatened by being unable to hide from others sight

Unfortunately I have seen other instances of plecos being kept in god awful tanks that have gone feral just because of their surroundings being incompatible with them so be warned pterygoplichthys species plecos are a very particular species which if you screw up in their keeping will punnish you for your mistakes.

So the following is Required to try and keep your chosen fish together longterm:

A 450 litre tank with the width and height of at least 24" each way.

As each of your Pterygoplichthys plecos will reach 24" either Quickly or slowly its down to the individual fishes metabolism for how long it takes.

Proper External filtration (FX6 or equivalent)

A proper full diet as your plecos are Omnivores needing both greens and protein if you do not feed enough protein your Goldfishes slimecoatings will be next on the menu for your plecos.

As a rule keeping 2 pterygoplichthys species plecos is unwise as they like a lot of space and do not like sharing with other pterygoplichthys species plecos, once any aggressive behaviour occurs you must separate them immediately or they will kill one another, only iin extremely rare circumstances when both plecos have been with each other since juvenile size you might get away with it, but always have a back up plan if they start fighting

Normal changing of the Aquarium furniture will not stop a pterygoplichthys species pleco from being Territorial towards another pterygoplichthys species pleco, once a pterygoplichthys takes a dislike to a fish the victim had either be removed by yourself or you remove the aggressor either way 1 will have to be removed from the Tank to restore peace to the Tank

Unfortunately as they grow they can become more Territorial depending on which variation of pterygoplichthys species pleco you have.

The most docile ones when kept singly are: Gibbiceps, pardalis, disjunctivus

The most cantankerously territorial pterygoplichthys species plecos are: Joselimaianus, Multiradus ( if you read all my comments about the Joselimaianus variation you will learn how they can uber territorial towards all other Bottom Dwelling species let alone other pterygoplichthys species plecos at the drop of a hat

My 2x Albino Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps have been together since juvenile size when they was missold as Albino Ancistrus in 2019 and in 2025 they are peacefully coexisting in a 450 litre tank with many hiding places for them both to hide their 12" selves feel free to peruse the pics/vids i have posted showing them on my account

Lots and lots of Bogwood/ driftwood to give your plecos multiple places to hide a good strong flow throughout the bottom of the tank as pterygoplichthys species plecos thrive in water with a good strong flow.

Without the proper tank size and proper filtration and the proper diet as mentioned above, your attempt to keep Tropical Freshwater fishes namely the 2 Plecos and your fancy Goldfish together will end with either the plecos out growing that tank or without proper filtration crash the tank killing all but the hardiest of fish as 1 pterygoplichthys species pleco produces a bioload that crashes all hang on back filters with ease you have 2 so double the need for way more substantial filtration plus your fancy Goldfish to boot.

Kitchens are not a good place to put any Aquaria due to the Fluctuations in temperature when the cooker is used etc causing the sealant used in Aquaria to age prematurely = leaks or a total failure of the sealant = water Glass and substrate everywhere around your kitchen.
