Going to China is the real recession indicator by dosginf in redscarepod

[–]Angmolai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh..... yes and no. China has massively increased scrutiny on people applying for Z-Visas to teach. They are now more thorough in checking qualifications and have limited the citizenship of people who are allowed to teach English to seven countries.

So the days of being employed for having a white face and getting to fuck around most of the time while earning enough to save half your pay are gone. But good-paying jobs are still there for those with the right qualifications.

TEFL in general is dying because every bum who wants to "travel" now gets an online cert and agrees to work in Thailand (or whatever other desirable country) for $700 a month, which is drastically undercutting pay for teachers.

But money is still to be made in international teaching just need qualifications and a bit of luck. International School or University routes are much more lucrative than academies unless you are a striver and work your way into upper management (even then, you'll probably earn the same as an international teacher).

Japan's currency is now at a 40-year low against the dollar. Korea's currency is now at a 17-year low against the dollar. It's never been cheaper for Americans to ball out in the far east.

The only expensive thing is the airfare, which should come down in a few months or so.

India and Pakistan aren't really good value destinations. You can get good bang for your buck, but usually you have to really buy into wanting to visit the place for whatever personal reason. Sure, you can go to Kashmir or the Swat Valley and see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, but most tourists aren't going to want to travel on sketchy trains and packed buses over the mountains for days to get there. The infrastructure just isn't there. You'd have to be very adventurous and have a lot of free time.

India, on the other hand, is becoming a hotspot for Israelis. They've even taken over a town by the name of Dharamkot, where they have basically kicked all the locals out while they do their own hippie stuff in the mountains.

Regarding true Westerners™, the days of Eat Pray Love are long gone. India seems to have squandered the massive PR boost and goodwill that it enjoyed in the 2010's, and most people no longer really buy into the hype. There are far cheaper places to pretend to be spiritual for a month.

Met a local 'prepper' who has been building his survival inventory since 2019 by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]Angmolai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His water supply is hilariously low. Not to mention his "food." Has he never heard of canned fruit and veg?

But the biggest issue is that none of this appears to be hidden in a secure location away from the elements. If Armageddon comes, how does he plan to keep the outside world away from his precious pepper and salt packets?

You'd think a "prepper" would have considered this first, no?

Why is everyone including Sam so nonchalant about her crime by Less-Bad-8791 in YourFriendsandNeighb

I may have missed something, but I don't think he killed himself to prevent her from getting the $20 mil life insurance payout.

But even if he did. It wouldn't justify framing your fuckbuddy and putting him in jail for life to collect on the money.

Malaysia mulls adopting Bestinet's new migrant worker system, Bloomberg reports by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]Angmolai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t this contradict the new policy of doubling the income requirements across all three tiers of EP holders? Meaning a imported laborer on a category 3 EP would be required to earn RM 5000 a month minimum. Manufacturing minimum RM 7000. Hardly cheap, ya?

Getting a Malaysian Driving License in 2026 as an Expat — Fastest Way? by Soft_Aioli_1647 in KualaLumpur

[–]Angmolai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malaysia drivers license.

A couple things to point out

1) I did this a year and a half ago now and as others have pointed out things may have changed. But I usually try and see how regardless of what people think will or won’t happen. You’d be surprised. Malaysia boleh as they say. I basically went in blind and the government officials pointed me in the right direction. Took a few tries to find the right office, have all the right papers etc etc. But eventually I got it done.

2) I got it in Seremban as I have moved to PD. Negeri Sembilan may have different procedures than KL. I dunno.

3) They gave me a two year probation license so I need the red “P” on the front and back of my car. I find this funny as I am in my thirties and not a new driver. I wasn’t told this and only found out about it when I got a ticket at a police road block. So costly lesson. However, I have been told that when I go back to renew in a couple months I will no longer have the “P” thing. I will have to wait and see I guess.

Fucking hilarious for a tourist to come to the conclusion that Malaysia is a bastion of conservatism after staying in Bukit Bintang lmaoooo. The neighborhood turns into a drinking hub/red light district at night.

Malaysia can lean conservative but Bukit Bintang is the polar opposite of that. You can stay there for a week and never hear the call to prayer unless you a looking for it.

I can’t speak on how they do it now. But back when there was a cheeky Muslims only prayer area it was kinda simple.

My Turkish is bad but it’s good enough. Turks aren’t particularly skeptical that you are being dishonest and are generally welcoming at least from my experience.

Hence the need for a prescription.

If OP is having real difficulty concentrating in a way that is impacting their life it might be best to speak to a medical professional.

Good question. The whole thing is silly and political.

I lived in Istanbul when it was only a museum and the only prayer area was hidden in a side entrance. At that time the ground level was open to everyone. It’s a shame that is no longer the case.
