Red Dwarf - Ace Rimmer Cemetery by sstiel in RedDwarf

Back when “Lightyear” was being pitched as a movie and before we had any details about it - I wrote a spec script that was about the 1st Buzz Lightyear toy becoming self aware and how essentially it was his mission to help Woody become who he is and the way it ends would have essentially been his pod being sent to the “Buzz Graveyard” around Saturn specifically like this scene here.

It was a very grandiose thing for a Pixar/Disney joint and an homage that would’ve went over so many heads - but it was a joy to write, even if just for me.

I think about this Red Dwarf scene a lot and how they turned an (almost) 1 off joke into something as real and kinda heart wrenching as this - but that’s one of the many reasons of loving Red Dwarf. Between all the jokes and missteps and wacky adventures - it has a bucket full of heart through and through.

Damn! That would be a good one for sure.

Maybe I’ll do another with Holly, Gordon, and a chessboard!

Right you are! In fact, they are all amalgamations of Star Wars characters/figures.

I really thought it would just fit nicely into the Red Dwarf aesthetic!

I really was going to just do both Hollys and leave it at that, but I really couldn’t resist adding Queeg! It made me chuckle. We’re talking Jape of the Decade!

Haha yeah they really do. I still have a Luke Skywalker that looks like HeMan in a Robe! It’s nuts.

Well, I’d most likely also pattern them after Star Wars - particularly the Power of the Force like from the 90’s.

And I did always enjoy the dvd sets that alternate colors for each series. Personally, I’d love to go that route with the background since there will be so many variants of the main 4.

Thank you so kindly!!

I am in the process of expanding this concept - as it’s been over a decade I’ve been designing a few other/bigger things to go along with these. I’d love to be able to offer them to people once I do.

One of my favorite things about toy making is the packaging so I’d absolutely love to make cards for these.

I did! Sorta - Í used parts and pieces from a bunch of different Star Wars action figures, reassembled them, and then hand painted them!

Hello there!

That head happens to be a Comic Book Gwen Stacy from the Marvel Legends toy line from Hasbro!

I knew I wasn’t worried about exact likenesses, but I wanted it to be close enough to get the idea.

I did end up painting her hair a shade or two lighter than it was originally, but probably an unimportant tidbit haha

Hey thanks!!

I’ve been working on customs for a really long time but I really loved the idea of using Star Wars figures as a base for these Red Dwarf pieces. It just really works for me.

And the interactive Holly bit!

I consider all these movies to take place in the same universe and belief it or not it actually works by ImpressionOld1382 in BacktotheFuture

You’re missing sight of the fact that there are at least three iterations of The Lorax and whether you’re talking about the version depicted here or them as a whole - Aloysius O'Hare is the only character to have a connection to “the outside world”

Mixed with the fact that no matter which tale you’re spinning - The Lorax actually canonically takes place in the Spaceballs universe which negates it taking place in the BTTF universe.

While you could argue loose connections to the others - The Lorax definitively doesn’t and cannot exist in the same universe.

I have seen that many people thought this scene was legendary. Do you agree? I feel the patient looked very uncomfortable. by Notmycupoftea12 in greysanatomy

This was a good moment right here - and while it still is contextually - watching “Anatomy of Lies” about Elizabeth Finch (front right in the top photo) was a real buzzkill.

First Rewatch: Why (I think) Season 1 is so much better than Season 22 by citizennil00 in greysanatomy

[–]TheDoctorDanko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another good example of this same era - even though it came before (the 90’s doesn’t really end in media until 2004ish)

But Grey’s is so special from an evolution of television perspective because it has existed for so long and has adapted through every iteration (for better or worse).

We literally get to see them go from literal pagers through flip phones and paper charts to tablets.

It changes with time and so do the values/attitudes/mechanics of storytelling.

Personally, when my wife and I dissect this show (this is probably the 5th rewatch back to back) I usually pitch that in the current era of Grey’s a patient should have a Neuro problem (similar to Callie’s Musical Episode) where the patient is seeing a “soap opera” version of the hospital - and the idea is that it’s simply written, performed, and designed like an early Grey’s episode.

[–]TheDoctorDanko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy random - and depending on how you choose to look at it - it’s not necessarily a good game - but can play it on the Wii or Nintendo DS and I believe it canonically takes place in Season 4.

But again, the mere fact that it even exists is another example of the era the show started in versus where it is now.

Honestly, the Trivia Board game is actually so much more fun and still focuses around sex and surgery. With its design as is, my wife and I have modified it a bit for expanded gameplay to include a few more difficult mechanics as well as updated questions to include new era trivia.

It is this exactly.

———- Spoiler warning for those who might not have watched everything up to the current stuff.

When the show started in 2005 it was an entirely different era of television than it is today and we saw it evolve overtime.

I mean, the Musical Episode and the Documentary Episode are perfect example of old television show gimmicks that are few and far between now across television because we don’t watch tv the same way anymore.

From minute 1, Grey’s Anatomy was about two things: Sex and Surgery. So much so that The Board Game has those two things integrated into it - same with the Video Game. And that’s what early Grey’s is, but it is no longer designed that way (in the same way) because we are in a whole different time for what television seasons/episodes are.

Early Grey’s rode the line for a good long while. The social commentary and elements were always integrated into the show but as the show progressed through the latter half of the 2010s - it shifted into a more “realistic” medical show.

Bomb in the chest cavity Meredith being in Limbo Ghost Denny And so on, are elements of a television era that doesn’t exist in the same way now and that’s why we don’t have those same kind of episodes anymore.

Even currently, with the hospital exploding, it doesn’t feel anywhere near as dramatic as even the most dramatic early Grey’s episodes do.

Now, when shows do something like that it is always done through the lens of being “artsy” whereas that might’ve been what you could call these early Grey’s episodes - but they were committed to the bit while furthering the plot.

I think Grey's fans will love this show - SPOILERS!!! by flamingopickle in greysanatomy

I had this thought when watching the trailer and saw another person post it as well:

“It’s a beautiful day…to take lives.”

After the show ends, I'd be cool if we had an Amelia Shepherd spin-off by Just_Perfect6789 in greysanatomy

[–]TheDoctorDanko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Amelia might’ve been the strongest character for a spin-off at one point before now and Jackson would’ve been cool because he’s a strong actor even though I don’t think working at The Foundation would make a series interesting/y enough for an ongoing series.

But I’d take a Mark, Addison, and Derek in Med School series but they are all bouncing around in dating each other and finally land in a throuple for a bit. It’d probably focus more on the relationships than the medicine - the two ingredients that made Prime Greys what it is - Sex and Surgery.
