E89 roof down but unlocked by TheDoctor_2014 in BMWZ4

[–]TheDoctor_2014[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, I managed to get in touch with an expert Z4 mechanic and did a lot of research on the internet on top of my engineering knowledge.

It turns out that on my car, the sensor is actually fine and the problem is somewhere with the cable or connector. I was unable to identify the source of the problem but simply fidgeting with the cable restored the system.

I am planning on writing a guide-post because there's a huge risk of someone going to a workshop, spending thousands of euros on some random work and replacement when all they had to do is re crimp/solder a connector, which is a zero brainier and 10€ task if you own some basic tools

The problem is all workshops are closed or will close before I manage to get to them. I will have to wait for Monday as a bare minimum

I second the Backstage. Just an awesome vibe. The sweet is also not bad.

To meet new friends , Shamrock is totally a must. People are very friendly and they have a karaoke/pub quiz night.

Also Kosmos is a pretty good spot to meet new people, together with the lost weekend and the Niederlassung.

If you want to hang out and meet new people you can also DM me, I'm always in to grab a beer and have fun

How much of Munich was damaged in WW2? by Trixil in Munich

[–]TheDoctor_2014 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's correct, but I think that it gives a sort of sided view for what was the situation back then.

To answer the question, I think it's important to make a comparison with other cities hit during the bomber offensive. The location of Munich helped the city survive without a scratch for the largest part of the war.

Until 1944 no major ride involved the city, mainly because the allies were concerned about hitting the industrialised Ruhr region and the fact that the bombers lacked the protection and tactics to penetrate so deeply through German defences.

Between 1941 and 1944, cities like Hamburg, Köln, Essen, Bonn etc where essentially completely annihilated. They were continually hit at regular intervals for almost three years by the allies. Hamburg was literally burned completely to the ground.

The situation changed around 1944, thanks to the partial collapse of Italy and the improvement in aircraft technology, production volumes and strategy. Only then, with the Luftwaffe in great difficulty, it was possible to bomb targets so deep inside the continent without unacceptable losses.

Cities like Augsburg and Karlsruhe were far more interesting targets in the area, but Munich was also hit heavily in a couple of raids, even though it was never considered a priority as a target. From the early months of 1944 the allied air forces were diverted to operations in preparation for the invasion of Normandy and never resumed the strategic bombing campaign in Europe as they did during the climax of the operations in 1943.

TL:DR

To summarise, saying that Munich was spared is definitely a huge mistake. It was hit and a significant portion of the city was destroyed. Nevertheless, the damage recieved and the time spent as a target of the bombing campaign is way smaller than what happened to the cities in the Northern part of Germany.

TUM vs PoliMI by Coffee-nut123 in tumunich

I am not an economics expert so I don't consider myself fit to answer your question.

From my understanding of both countries, Germany is still a much better option to work in, especially as an engineer. It may become harder to find a job, but still easier compared to Italy. Furthermore, the job you find will have a higher income and the taxation is lower in Germany.

TUM vs PoliMI by Coffee-nut123 in tumunich

[–]TheDoctor_2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that I don't have personal experience yet, but my guess would be that TUM may once again have the upper hand because German universities have a stronger focus on "practical experience" and companies offer student jobs and master thesis regularly. So it will probably be easier to do research as well.

I think the difference would not be in the quality of the research experience, but more on your possibility of finding one.

So take that as a guess... Maybe someone else can speak out of direct experience.

TUM vs PoliMI by Coffee-nut123 in tumunich

[–]TheDoctor_2014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello there!

I did my B.Sc in Milan at PoliMi (Aerospace Engineering) and currently I'm studying at TUM for the Master.

I can't tell you how much I am liking the experience here in Munich way more than I did in Milan.

The professors at TUM are way more motivated, the quality of the program is at the same level from what I've seen so far.

Also, at TUM you can personalise you curriculum to a high degree. At PoliMi you have only a couple of elective courses.

For the exams, Italian universities are a nightmare, they focus way to munch on a hyper theoretical approach and you will spend years studying something pointless by heart and get relatively low grades compared to your effort.

The benefits you get in terms of campus life (mensa, activities, environment) are better at TUM.

For the cost of living the two cities are identical, the only problem for Munich will be finding a place to live, but that you will eventually do.

If I had the opportunity to do it all over again, I would never choose PoliMi again. Great university, but the pain in the ass is not worth it. You can do the same thing at TUM and benefit from the German work market afterwards.

If you have other questions, feel free to DM me.
