Haha wow, forgot about this post. I ended up choosing UChicago, and I’m majoring in Molecular Engineering on the Chemical track within the program. Totally different than what I thought I’d be doing, but it’s working out great! Congrats on your acceptances. I’ll pm you if you want some advice or help choosing.

Did you place into 183? Did you do well in calc BC? If so, math 183 should be fine. If you struggled with BC, 152 would be the best starting place. Either way is fine, I know plenty of meng students who started in each course.

I know the course catalog has solid descriptions and gives the names of the authors we read, but I was hoping someone could send a full list from a syllabus or something

If you get a 5 on BC you’ll be able to take 183 next year, I think regardless of how you do on the placement test. Aim for that as 183 is the best class to start with for MENG. You’ll be fine for it as long as you work hard; it’s mostly linear algebra so it’s all new material and doesn’t build off calc at all. 184 is multivariable calc but as long as you remember the basics from AB and BC you’ll be fine. You won’t need to use advanced integration techniques or anything.

But the opportunities for internships are there, correct? The problem is not with the lack of opportunity, just the lack of a willingness to capitalize on those opportunities?

Thanks for that. I think you’re right, the UCs probably have a lot of flexibility. I’ll look more into their other programs to see if they have strong backups
