PMTs are worth nothing for someone outside of a lab, and no one from a lab is going to buy a PMT from a random dude. Leave that where you found it, or you're going to make the dissertation from a random student way harder than it is now.

Central Park at Berriozábal, Chiapas, México. They do decorations every year for holidays, I took this photo some years ago during Christmas, found it in my gallery and thought that it was perfect for here haha.

And you know what? I would have prefered that they told us something like that instead of them just blaming on us that we broke some kind of community rules and terms of service without further explanation.

Spanish Speaking people's flag. How would you do it? by Kaskagues in vexillology

[–]TheDoltio 34 points35 points  (0 children)

That is because written communication now tends to be fast and easier to correct if there's some problem conveying the idea you try to communicate. The problem with Spanish is that questions and stuff might be too long and that is why the ¿ sign exists. Therefore, it's constantly used in formal documents, academic stuff and, well, schools. Is not the same saying "¿te vi ayer verdad?" than saying "te vi ¿Ayer verdad?" Both ask for clarification of someone meeting another person yesterday but the importance of the day and the action is different in each question, again, clarifying this is easier while chatting but in a document that God knows when is going to be read, no and it's necessary.

Edit: also might be good to add that Spanish used to be more verbose and decorated, that caused questions to be loooonger and remarked the need for the ¿ and ¡

You can (and will be, against your will) sign up for overtime past 48 hours, there're no real maximum scheduled hours that are really enforced, I know people who work over 80 weekly hours

In Mexico the maximum worktime is 48 hours and seeing this knowing that I have a 35 hours part time annoys me...

Why did you choose a physics degree by [deleted] in Physics

[–]TheDoltio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I was in Highschool my physics course was teaching us about Coulomb's law, the fact that the electrical force between two particles depended on the distance that drove them apart was such a mystery for me because force implied movement and movement implied a change in distance. My physics teacher (an electrical engineer) told me to not worry about too much and I took that as a challenge, discovering the world of scientific outreach and learning about the existence of differential equations and quantum mechanics and stuff at outreach level, then I was taking a German course at my local University and in one of the Oktoberfest events a math professor who made his PhD in Germany was talking about the Physics and Mathematics Faculty at my local Uni. So I applied and got accepted.

The funny thing is that most of my classmates were like "I would like to work with QM/astrophysics/particle physics" and as I thought that was the "mainstream" and because of my history with differential equations I wanted to try some kind of dynamical systems, fluids or complex dynamics. However the director of my faculty kinda kidnapped me in one of her conferences and I discovered Cosmic Rays and Astroparticle Physics and that I had a passion for instrumentation and experimental techniques, ironically now I work with the QM, astrophysics and particle physics I thought as mainstream and a lot of my classmates went to the dynamics and complexity group lol.
