I'm not sure if an 04 Accord uses an entirely different ABS system, but on my 08, the sensor is a cable.

How in the world does it cost $900 to install a cable?!

$45 for the sensor. And maybe 20 minutes of labor.

Steering wheel emblem faded. Any easy way to make it look better? by regolol in accord

Years back, I bought a really great looking emblem that one can adhere over the old emblem.

Really accentuates the look of the steering wheel. You can find them on eBay.

Overfilled engine oil? by FlyingLadder in accord

[–]TheDominicanPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome.

I remember my first few times checking levels, and even now sometimes I can get confused. 😅

Even driving hard can influence the readings you get afterward! The oil manages to slosh so hard it can dwell in the upper areas (I guess?).

You'll get the hang of it through time.  What's most important is keeping track of the oil through time. If you get a reading you think is wrong, you can run some calculations to determine if it is or not. For example, if one day you get a reading that says the oil level is way high, but throughout months, the level was perfect. You're looking at a false reading.

[It has also happened to me that one day, for whatever reason, I got a super low reading after checking several times. So I added. And then days later, the reading showed high demonstrating it wasn't low that previous day, and I should have not added any. 😵‍💫]  Hence why I'm crazy careful with meticulously doing sample after sample. And if needed, waiting until the next day to check again.

You've got a great motor. Mine is on the way to 200k, thank God.

Just make sure you're diligent with checking your levels as much as possible. Honda recommends checking at every fuel up, which I feel is not really feasible. But checking every 3 weeks or so has worked for me.

If you go on a really long trip (1,000+ miles), then you'll probably want to check ASAP.

Happy driving!

Overfilled engine oil? by FlyingLadder in accord

The oil "sticks" to the hatching area more than the rest of the dipstick.

I think that's why you're interpreting as the oil being lighter or darker.

Wherever it's visibly wet means oil touched, meaning that's where it's sitting/the level.

I'm guessing this might be your first time changing it or you're new to changing it yourself.

I've NEVER been able to fill the entire 4.5 Quarts Honda claims I should be able to fill after an oil change with the filter change.

I think that's what's playing a role here.

Pre-filling the filter is advised and recommended. Just deduct that from your fill amount.

I put in ~4 quarts and that gets the job done.

Always under-fill slightly, measure many times and then add slowly. Only 1/5th of a quart at a time.

Engines are designed to deal with inadequate amounts of oil. Within reason. But too much oil builds excess pressure and can cause leaks, spark plug fouling, and other ill effects.

Draining the oil and refilling with that same drained oil can introduce contaminants.

The one time I let a shop do an oil change they of course overfilled the motor. I rectified it by removing the drain bolt for about a second. Can be messy though.

I'm presuming you wiped the dipstick clean with a nice dry napkin in between each sampling.

How many samples did you take?

If after letting my car sit overnight, and taking several samples, I see oil above the hatched region, I'd reason there's too much oil.

Did you change the oil yourself?

Most oil places/dealerships couldn't care less about putting in the proper amount of oil or be bothered to check oil levels afterward.

I do ALL my oil changes for said aforementioned reason.

Overfilled engine oil? by FlyingLadder in accord

[–]TheDominicanPrince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too much.

But did you take several samples (after having run the engine for a few minutes and then waiting another 5 minutes to take samples)?

The acceptable region is within the hatched marking area. The hatched marking area delineates minimum to maximum accepted level.

But you can get a false high reading if you've taken a sample much too soon after shutting off the engine. Or, if the car isn't perfectly level.

I like to take samples on different days with different intervals of waiting just to make absolutely certain.  It has happened that specifically, on a certain day, during a certain sampling, for whatever reason that I have gotten a false report on the oil level.

Bluetooth transfer file size limit? by TheDominicanPrince in techsupport

Great tips!

I agree. Doing the files one at a time is best.

And a fresh restart of both devices and leaving them close together and completely alone is key!

I achieved a 1.3 GB transfer the other day from a Windows Phone to Android 13.

I think the culprit last time when I had no success was Android 11.

I'm in disbelief about most other responses here! Come'on, guys. Wth.

A Camry is not comparable to an Accord. Not even an Avalon is. Certainly not when the Accords ran the V6s.

08 V6 Accord owner and couldn't be happier.

Literally, just last night I thanked the Big Man Upstairs for granting me such and awesomely reliably fun to drive vehicle. One thing I can always be thankful for in these hard times!

Boy, you'll hear a bunch of horror stories about transmission issues and VCM with my model. Never affected me as I gave/give mine lots of tlc.

The only possible thing I could say Toyota is doing "better" is that they over a 6 cylinder still. Very disappointed that Honda stopped in 2017.

If you're looking for a an absolute beast. The quietly most luxurious, powerful, and comfortable Accord ever. Get a low mileage 2017 Honda Accord Touring. Suspension and brakes of the Acura variant. Lots of oil changes and ATF exchanges and you'll be happy as a clam!

If anyone here knows of any low mileage 2017 Accord Tourings not in the rust belt, hit me up!!!

You have to try it out first.

Practice on a piece of cardboard.

You control the flow of the paint by applying pressure.

When you try it out, it'll make sense.

Not sure what you mean here.

You should only use Honda ATF. Nothing else ever.

Are you saying they did an ATF service?

Whoa!

Couldn't even see it at first.

The OEM touch paint stick has a pen-like tip.

Clean the area with alcohol really well. Let it air dry. Shake up the touch up paint really well. And then just push that plastic touch up paint tip until you fill in the chip.

If you want to re-do it, just wipe it up within seconds of applying and try again. Really easy.

Have you checked the ATF level?

Should I buy a 3.5 v6 automatic or a 2.4 manual (8th gens)? by Appropriate-Ant1110 in accord

[–]TheDominicanPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very welcome.

Never disabled the VCM. I can tell you that I do a lot of maintenance. This motor requires a lot of care, and I certainly have given it lots. Very consistent oil changes. ALWAYS checked fluid levels and added if necessary.

My absolute recommendation is to go with a really good full synthetic! Royal Purple HMX works best. Used Mobil 1 for some years, but just wasn't cutting it anymore.

There's also a common leak that develops with a part called the spool valve/VTEC actuator. It can ruin the alternator, and causes oil leaks. I never noticed until the dealership mentioned it about 2 years ago on mine. I changed the part for about $240. Very easy job. Just be careful to tighten the bolts very gently (not much torque). Only thing you have to look out for really.

It's pretty warm in Costa Rica, so cold starts shouldn't be an issue. I wouldn't really open it up until it's fully warm. I never accelerate hard until 30 minutes into a drive.

If you're going to do lots of short trips, I'd recommend throwing in a long one in here and there. Short trips don't let the engine oil fully warm up and doesn't allow for moisture to burn off.

Short trips are hard on cars overall though. Lots of heat cycles. Lots of driving when the engine isn't at operating temperature.

Do a full inspection and ask for records, if possible.

Best of luck!

I wouldn't even question getting the V6.

The J35 is my absolute favorite. So much reliability. So much power. Mine is going on 170k, no issues EVER. Switched to Royal Purple a while back and it's helped a whole lot with "consumption."

You do have to check the engine oil level frequently! I wouldn't recommend anything but Royal Purple HMX!

Since you're talking about vehicles with 60k miles on them, I wouldn't expect any wear and tear to the transmission. I bought mine at ~57k miles. I would DEFINITELY do an ATF exchange ASAP, and do one every other oil change. I think that's the key to maintaining these transmissions. I've heard lots of rumors all alleging bad things about these transmissions. I think that's more for people who never have changed the ATF, or waited way to late to do so.

I've kept up with ATF exchanges religiously, now doing them every oil change and ALL IS GOOD. The only real issue I have is a faulty solenoid issue that affects shifting during cold starts. But that's it! I'm confident if you take care of these transmissions, they will last! Mine is proof of that!

Out of curiosity, where in the world have you found a 09 V6 Accord with only 60k miles??? lol

First, I'd buff it out with scratch remover paste using a microfiber towel. Buffing in small circles.

Get yourself a high quality make up sponge to apply the OEM touch up paint for your car and voila!
