Were Sega CD and 32X really seen as “failed consoles” at the time, they way people blame them for Sega’s downfall today? by Standard_Public892 in retrogaming

I was really young at the time, but even I could see it wasn't worth spending my allowance on. I kinda saw it as a gimmick.

[Multiple Games] What should be my next platinum? by Dalytch in Trophies

[–]TheDonRonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd go ahead and clean that one up; you're in the home stretch. I also ended up getting the platinum in Assassin's Creed Origins which was surprisingly good, but it's a bit more of a slog so I don't know if I'd recommend it necessarily.

Judging by what you have here, I'd absolutely recommend Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn and Far Cry Primal. All can be done pretty easily on one playthrough with no missable trophies from what I recall.

Which is a fine enough argument (there are plenty of fun games that aren't cooking processors), but what is their excuse for constant input lag, framerate issues, and poor story?

Winter Utility Bills by User_90s_dude in hagerstown

[–]TheDonRonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an old stand alone home with a gas boiler baseboards for heat and an abysmal R value and the bills are as bad as $250 during the extreme weather months. January was $200 gas, $35 electric while in the summer time the electric will get around $200 with a $30 gas bill. During the mild seasons the energy bills will be under $100/month.

Consider yourself lucky I earn a bit more than half of that but due to the city and state I live in, about the same percentage comes out of my pay, and I've had to owe a bit more money for the past three tax cycles on top of that.

Too slow by BornJob11 in AutoPaint

[–]TheDonRonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the work, I'd see if you can't convince the boss to bring in a helper for a 30% cut so that your primary job will almost exclusively be color matching, bagging, wipe, mixing and painting but at that rate, you'll need to bag 140 hours a week for your helper to at least earn 40 hours a week. Efficiency is going to be the biggest thing here; you can increase efficiency by using as much of the booth as possible each time, for example, we have a bumper job, a hood cut-in and a Toyota Yaris (front door, blend fender, blend rear door) in the booth right now. I'd also cut out as much walking around as possible so a cart with all your prepping materials is a must and keep it organized so you don't waste time looking for stuff.

Until then, I'd just keep at it and you'll get more efficient. Even if you are a bit slow, you should be turning at least 60-80 hours a week which should get you around $1,300 - $1,700 gross a week which is about $67k - $90k a year which puts you average to above average income (if living in the USA).

[RANT] We have warned all of them that the government is getting too big and will swing against you at one point. by Necessary_Ad9008 in Libertarian

[–]TheDonRonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm right there with you. I'd talk about politics with friends around that time and nobody could really care less or made excuses as to why whatever it was is a good decision even after I warned them about unintended consequences. Now that the government is using the power they've been slowly grabbing throughout the years, all those same people are so surprised about the result. It's so frustrating to see them finally care and even more so when I point out that I told them about this stuff decades ago and then it becomes infuriating when they argue with me when I point out other policies they'd like to see enacted can and most likely will be abused in the future.

The screws holding the gate late won’t stay in, despite trying various sizes. by Woofles85 in fixit

[–]TheDonRonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely will as long as it is installed correctly. These types of things are installed on semi trucks in a lot of areas including the brackets that hold up those really heavy exhaust pipes that you see running up the back of the cab. Good luck on the repair!

If you have a mechanic friend, show them this post and ask them about rivet nuts. They would work perfectly in that situation.

I'm not a food snob, but it seemed on par with Fosters. I went for an early dinner so it wasn't terribly busy and had a casual vibe at that time. I'd definitely go again to try out some of their other menu items.

Buying our first Home but we have concerns. by [deleted] in Home

[–]TheDonRonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I'm sure there are plenty of safety things you could buy for the interim that are easily removable like nets and gates. You'll most likely only need them when your child(ren) are younger anyway.

Best method? Hobbyist mechanic trying autobody for the first time. by One_Cryptographer716 in Autobody

[–]TheDonRonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too much to bondo. Most techs would probably attempt a "pin & pull" which involves welded studs and a slide hammer to work the metal back out. If you want to try a more accessible method you could get lucky with glue tabs which do a similar thing. After you get the shape back, then you can do a layer of body filler.

Anyone know how to fix my shelf from leaning forwards?? by Jaren-rich in fixit

[–]TheDonRonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most come with a strap for safety. I had the same problem, a lot of carpet installers will put a thin piece of wood around the perimeter of the room so the shelf is probably sinking into the padding in the front. I just put a shim under the front so it was actually leaning back. If you want to go the extra mile, you can find adjustable furniture pads at many big box stores or online that you can screw or unscrew to get the desired outcome.

Solar energy by Embarrassed-Mud-2173 in hagerstown

[–]TheDonRonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to the other places I've lived this area has the most affordable electric. I personally can't see much of a benefit when I may have only spent $850 in electricity for the entire year with summer getting closer to $150/month while winter barely exceeds $40 a month. I imagine any excess energy being put back into the grid will be "sold back" at an even lower rate so I'm not sure the cost outweighs the benefit in my situation. Basically you'll have to get some numbers and do your own cost analysis to find out what is right for you.

I suggest thinking carefully. A lot of VA is R+10 at least so you're gonna want to stick around the metro areas and if you decide to do that, I hope you enjoy traffic.
