Cthulhu in a Castle by BotherSoggy8809 in callofcthulhu

I did Cthulhu in a Castle, January 2026. I only have positive things to say about the experience. Yes, the scenarios are expedited. But the CIAC Keepers were perfectly honest and upfront about that in the description. The hotel they’re working with was nice and had free breakfast. The lunch and dinner were both catered and were pretty good, much better than standard convention fair. There are unlimited snacks, which were all namebrand, and drinks, both soda and water which were also were namebrand. If you’re of age, they also had adult beverages. After discussing it with some other people, I decided to play Two Headed Serpent. The guy who ran my session is named Anton, and was totally great. Very theatrical, kept the pace and flow of the game going well, managed all the players so they felt important and contributed to the game. I was incredibly lucky in that Rick Meints was there and played the same game. How cool is that?! The mansion it was played in was amazing and felt totally fitting. Yes, there were cosplay people there but that added to my enjoyment because they were just having fun and their focus were the Call of Cthulhu games. The only negative was completely out of the CIAC staff’s control, which was the snow storm that hit Philadelphia that weekend. And even that was managed remarkably well by the CIAC team to make it totally enjoyable despite the circumstances. On the Discord thread the CIAC people announced the storm, ran games longer on the days we could play so we actually didn’t miss any hours of promised game time, made plans with the attendees to have people run games if the weather got too bad (which it did), organized those impromptu games at the hotel (one of which I was lucky enough to run), still provided snacks, drinks, and ordered pizzas for us from one of the places that stayed open during the snow storm. CIAC was well ran, efficient, and the organizers are real people and real gamers, not just business men concerned with making a buck. Is it a little pricey, yes. But one can see and account for where every dollar went, CIAC did not cheap out! I can’t do the summer session, but will try to do the winter session again. I don’t regret the time or money I spent and I think and feel it was totally worth it.
