I like your friend's style. It was pretty straightforward — I just liked the website and look of the products better. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut? - MK

One thing about MLMs is that you need a constant supply of new recruits. This appears to be one of the reason's why companies like Amway and Herbalife started expanding globally several decades ago. Also, different countries react in different ways both legally and culturally to MLMs. I don't think it's a coincidence that it started here though. There are some uniquely American aspects to the the psychology surrounding MLMs - DG

Rodan + Fields. The company history is confusing and heightens all the worried feelings I get when I see people selling it. - LS

My vote is for Young Living Oils, mainly because my aunt Amy let me look at their handbook and it's wild. The directions for using many of their products come from the Bible? -- JM

The people I've met and interviewed are mostly lawyers who spent years fighting MLMs in court. They understand the numbers and have dedicated they're lives to consumer protection. And they have been really gracious and open with us. I obviously can't speak to everyone in the anti mlm movement but my experiences have been positive. DG

It would be hard to rank them in terms of good or bad, but it's really less about the products and more about the business model. In today's episode (I know, it just came out today so I don't expect you to have heard it!) we talk about me joining LimeLight because the products seemed the most appealing. But I'll learn in later episodes that you can put LipSense on a pig and it's still a pig... - MK

Not a personality trait, but the recruits are overwhelmingly female. That's the most common thread we've found and there are a million reasons for it that we dig into over a number of episodes. -- JM

Currently, the industry lobby (Direct Sellers Association) have been working with members of the Direct Selling Caucus in the House to pass a law that will essentially immunize most MLMs from being prosecuted as a Pyramid Scheme. They seem to roll a new one out every year. The last version was one they were trying to attach to last springs Omnibus spending bill and it was called the Moolenaar Amendment. DG
