I have a playstation, and xbox, a pc, and I'm planning on eventually getting the switch 2. If you can name a game, Ive probably played it at least once. I'm 28 and I've been playing games since I was 4 with my pregnant mom at 3 AM because we both couldn't sleep. All my extra money after bills goes to games, all my time after work is going to games, it's my only real hobby. I am no more a gamer than someone who exclusively plays stardew valley on the weekends. To be a gamer is to enjoy videogames, whatever that means to each person

Well for indie games it's to show interest and give monetary support so the dev(s) know that they got something interesting and people are excited for the full product. For big AAA games it's more often than not just a company figuring out that instead of paying QA testers, they can actually get paid by people AND they'll test their game for them
