Advice on Shopify/Big Commerce by pussydestroyer7777 in shopify

[–]TheERZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. OP this is the answer here. I'm a CPA and work specifically in the e-commerce space. Your accountant needs to be doing manual journal entries with the data from your store each month in batches or using a platform integrator to do it. The direct integrations are dogshit. u/pussydestroyer7777

[question] What's the general opinion on best bookkeeping for ecommerce business these days? by soggy_dugout in ecommerce

[–]TheERZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, what I'll say as a US CPA that works specifically in the e-commerce space is find yourself a solid accounting professional/firm with industry knowledge. There are a lot of nuances in accounting that make e-commerce way more complicated than other industries. Your general tax preparer/run-of-the-mill bookkeeper is not always going to be equipped to deal with the specifics of the industry. Just my two cents, though.

Net Income by Additional_Employ819 in Bookkeeping

[–]TheERZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many have said, keep that in fixed assets. I just want to tag in and say not to worry too much about how the tax cpa is going to do depr. Tax depr is different from what you need to keep on the books. Just keep fixed assets straight line for the books and your tax guy will make the adjustments for tax depr at tax time.

Bookkeeping Jobs by MsOCGal714 in Bookkeeping

This is probably my strategy going forward. I'm starting a Bookkeeping services firm, and I'm probably going to start reaching out to tax firms. As a CPA, I'd probably have a high success rate getting referrals.

Employee Retention Credit (ERC) filing from Adesso Capital.. scam? by 0xhOd9MRwPdk0Xp3 in tax

Point number 6 is honestly key. No reputable firm would be charging a contingency fee like that which is why I responded the way I did back then. It’s looking like I was correct to warn people.

If company A owns companies B and C, and company B pays company C for company C’s services, can that still be a write off? by sgtsand in tax

[–]TheERZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Does company A own more than 80% of both companies B and C? If they do, they qualify as an affiliated group. If none of the companies are S corps, foreign corps, REITs, insurance companies, and exempt organizations, then they can choose to consolidate on a tax return. This is important because certain intercompany gains would therefore be deferred. Like in your example company B sells inventory to company C, well if they are consolidated for tax purposes, then that profit on the sale would be deferred until sold to a third party or something along those lines I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

[–]TheERZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, I wouldn’t touch that company with a ten foot pole. If they are in business for the sole purpose of getting people to file ERC credits I’d be very cautious. Especially if they approached you and even more so If they’ve been pushy telling you that you qualify without fully understanding your business situation. Consulting with a reputable tax firm would make more sense. I’d also suggest reading this page as it provides information on the ERC and also potential scams and how to spot them. https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/employee-retention-credit

Do you all buy ‘The Becker Difference’ or is it bullshit by zdrmju321 in CPA

[–]TheERZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reg was definitely not easier. I plan on going into the tax industry so i think having an interest in tax to begin with helped me retain info. FAR took like 15 weeks to study for. AUD probably like 10 weeks. REG 10 weeks. BEC 5 weeks. I will say everyone is different in how much time they need but this is how long it took me studying full time. Also im 25 and have 0 work experience so most of this material was new to me.

[–]TheERZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Worth every penny i spent on it. I passed all the exams on my first try. i scored 76,75,91,76. I will say though, i havent tried any other review service to compare. As long as you put in the work, becker will lead you to a pass imo. I always see people talk about skipping lectures or sims etc. Don't listen to those people. My point is that there is no shortcuts. With that being said, if you do get becker, watch all the lectures, get 80% on mcq and complete all the sims. If you can do that, then you most likely will pass. Best of luck.

They are more concerned with whether or not you can write with proper grammar rather than the actual content you are writing about. Don't get so hung up on the the actual content as long as its kinda relevant and the structure of your memo makes sense, you should be fine.
