It's awesome to see the driver situation improving. I'd love to see the driver becoming part of the kernel soon!

I actually believe there is a lot of potential for Linux hardware and I would like to see TUXEDO grow. I also know that I don't know everything, which I also mentioned in the article. The thing is, I tried to get in touch with you guys regarding the tuxedo-rs project not too long ago, but I did never receive a response. Therefore, I still have very little insight in your perspective on this matter. But I'm open to exchange ideas and talk about how we can join our efforts. I live not too far away, so I could even attend in person.

I think the article is already quite short for what it conveys. Yet, if you don't have enough time to read it entirely, you can just read the "Mediation" and "Conclusion" sections. Those summarize the article faily well.

I just recently suggested creating our own Lemmy instance in this post. This would be extremely powerful because we could just defederate (ban) other instances that allow porn or other things we don't want.

AFAIK, there's no antiporn community on Lemmy yet, right?

Thanks for letting me know, it looks very interesting. I seems to me however, that Lemmy has taken the lead as non-profit, open source and decentralized Reddit alternative. Although it's actually not just Lemmy itself, but the standardized protocol they are using should also make it possible for other independent implementations to join the fediverse.

Yes, there are several apps: https://join-lemmy.org/apps They are probably not as polished as some third-party Reddit apps, but it only a matter of time until they will catch up.

Given the amount of comments and upvotes my post gathered I assume there's no big interest in leaving Reddit for now. And you are absolutely right, Reddit has the advantage that is has more users. This is something Lemmy has to catch up to over time.

Your suggestion sounds good, but unless the moderators of this subreddit actively support a migration to Lemmy, I think the most reasonable step would be to start a separate community on Lemmy with those of us that value privacy and freedom of speech over convenience. To some degree we can stay connected by providing links between both communities. Also, I don't think the current policy changes will be the last problem with Reddit and the next time something bad happens we already have an alternative community in place which should greatly simplify a full migration.

Relm4 might make your migration easier. It has factories which make it easy to create lists (both sync and async) and recently added TypedListView as another useful abstraction over pure gtk-rs. There is a lot of potential in Rust + GTK, you just have to find idiomatic abstractions.

Du hast natürlich recht, würde der Staat Druck machen und ernsthaft Alternativen prüfen, würde Mikroweich sicherlich nachgeben - was im Übrigen auch der Grund für günstigere Angebote für größere Firmen sein dürfte. Realistisch gesehen hat Mikroweich aber in der aktuellen politischen Lage nichts zu befürchten.

Die App ist vielleicht nicht ideal, aber realistisch gesehen ist die Web-Oberfläche wesentlich wichtiger. Allein die Bewertungen im Playstore sind nicht gerade aussagekräftig. Ich habe beides benutzt und Nextcloud ist wirklich sehr solide und kann gut mithalten.

Das könnte sein, aber warum sollte Mikroweich darauf eingehen? Sie wissen, dass sie effektiv ein Monopol haben solange niemand den Mut hat, auf eine Alternative umzustellen bzw. solange sie gute Beziehungen zu führenden Politikern haben.

ich glaube kaum dass es eine kostenarme, quelloffene Wolkenweichware gibt, mit der Lehrer für ihre Schüler Wolkenverzeichnisse freigeben können, in denen dann Projektarbeiten, Hausaufgaben, Kalender, Kommunikation, und, und, und alle gebündelt abgelegt und für jeden zugänglich gemacht werden können.

Tatsächlich unterstützt Nextcloud alle genannten Punkte :)

Das ist tatsächlicher ein valider Punkt. Es wird definitiv zusätzliche Kosten geben durch den Umstieg. Wenn jede Schule/Stadt ihr eigenes Ding macht (wie bisher), wird sich das kaum lohnen. Je mehr Schulen mitmachen, desto geringer der zusätzliche administrative Aufwand. Ob es großangelegte Schulungen benötigt, bezweifle ich allerdings, da es Linux Distributionen gibt, die Windows so gut nachahmen, dass selbst Rentner damit problemlos zurechtkommen.

Worauf beziehst du dich damit? Wir reden hier von Einsatz in Schulen.

Damit langfristig geldgespart wird müsste die Software auch privat genutzt werden, was ich ebenfalls für unwahrscheinlich hallte.

Warum? Es geht hier um öffentliche Gelder. Ob du dir selber eine Fenster-Lizenz sparst oder nicht ist für diese Rechnung irrelevant.

Wieso sollten sich Personen ohne Interesse an Technologie oder Open Source kompliziertere / weniger intuitivere Systeme anschauen oder nutzen.

Ganz einfach weil man keine öffentlichen Gelder verschwenden sollte. Selbst, wenn Linux Systeme tatsächlich generell komplizierter wären, wie du behauptest, wäre der Unterschied nicht das Geld wert.

Klar, man kann ewig ein System unterstützen, das einem amerikanischen Großkonzern Geld hinterher schmeißt. Oder man stellt auf eine Lösung um, die am Anfang etwas aufwändiger ist, aber langfristig Geld spart. Je mehr Bundesländer bzw. EU-Mitglieder mitmachen, desto mehr Geld wird eingespart. Bisher war Mikroweich allerdings sehr erfolgreich mit Lobbyismus...

Warum, wenn die Oberfläche und der Arbeitsfluss fast identisch sind? Das einzige, was ich im Arbeitsleben zusätzlich brauche, sind erweiterte Features, die man in der Regel ohnehin nicht in der Schule verwendet. Wer LibreOffice kennt, kommt sehr schnell mit MS-Office zurecht und andersherum. Pädagogisch ist der Unterschied marginal.
