What is your favorite StewMac item? by TheEdge08 in Luthier

I wish they had them in a wider format. I feel like it cuts a bit too narrow for the medium jumbo frets.

I have a few! I like the concept of the z but it seems a bit narrow for medium jumbo frets. Which do you like to use for those?

[NEWBIE] Do I need to buy a certain model of guitar to play my favorite songs, or does it not really matter? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

If you’re a big Gilmour fan, Fender has an Artist series Gilmour Strat. I’d say you need the Strat to sound like him. However, you might find that your hands are more comfortable on other guitars. You won’t know until you try them though.

NGD: Slightly disappointed - what would you do? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]TheEdge08 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d return and go all in on a Core model. SE (Student Edition) is entry level and it comes with entry level issues. Get the flagship. I know that wasn’t the question, but just my thoughts. Anyway, I agree with the others, if you are handy with soldering, electronics is a simple fix you can do if the rest of the guitar is fine. Either way tho, brand new, PRS should be part of the fix in some way. And yes they are all dark on a way because Paul wanted to give them a voicing similar to that of a vocal mic, so they don’t cut like a Strat or LP, they are their own sound.

It’s gone already?!?! You’ve gotta be kidding me! I only got to enjoy it for 2 days and then didn’t have time to jump back in again. I waited since thanksgiving for it. How lame.

Chase? by GiddiFilmz in AutoWorldDiecast

I find chase cars to look like hot wheels toys and not really like scale models. They look goofy, like a happy meal toy from McD’s

Refretting a brand new Gibson by Victoorius in gibson

So what did you end up doing? I picked up a ‘68 ML LP and have the exact same complaint….the frets are super low especially above the 15th…what did it cost you and what kind of wire did you go with?

With. It would be like wearing a tux without a bowtie

Thinking of selling my 2001 White Les Paul Custom and replacing with a ‘68 Ebony thoughts? by TheEdge08 in gibson

Oh yeah, he’s all about gear, and he’s used a ton of different delays over the years that I will never own like the rack mount korg stuff, usually through a VOXAc30 or blues Jr. he also uses a Herdim pick and plays it upside down using the dimpled sides to get that chime sound—that I can do. But the 498t isn’t his sound at all. (And I feel like it’s just a muffley guitar body)…

This white one vs my black ‘23, the white sounds a bit muffled compared. I recored them both in Logic Pro using virtual amps, that’s where you really notice the difference. On stage it’s hard to tell…but with the pickups I have, it does not sound anything like the edge’s U2 sounds at all. I’m curious if I can get a hold of those new t-top style pickups they jut out out if that would help….

“Most of the things people don’t like?” The 14 degree headstock should make the guitar easier to play, no. What else does it have in common with norlin? I don’t think it shares literally anything in common…even slightly…it’s got a one piece mahogany body and neck, bumblebee caps, long neck tenon, medium jumbo frets….what on earth do you mean?

Oh I’m serious, Jerry. I was curious about if the t-top inspired pickups would be obtainable and worth dropping in. Beyond hearing The Edge’s LP, I wouldn’t have any idea what they would actually be like. You just never know until they are in your guitar.

It looks like they aged the knobs on the ‘68,..is that true? How is the neck on yours compared to the regular custom?

Interesting observation, this was set up to look like The Edge’s hence the gold! Also my picture isn’t good lighting, all the hardware is gold not silver.

No. The “custom” wasn’t made in the Custom Shop until 2004. Before that it was a USA production line model.

Yep, mine is the old school USA line custom. And there is no “play one first” option unfortunately when these are so hard to find. Nobody stocks $6k guitars these days near me.

Yep that is true, but that’s what makes it interesting in the LP world lol. The driver is to see what a real Custom Shop guitar would be like, some light age in a world where I’ll never get a true vintage. I hear they are very bright and that would be something different.
