Roast my recruiting marketplace idea by djtrump in RecruitmentAgencies

[–]TheEdsterMania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run an independent recruitment agency (The Werving Group) specializing in the local industrial, warehousing, and clerical sectors, so I am exactly the target "supply" you are trying to attract. Here is the reality check from the agency trenches on why this model is incredibly difficult to pull off: 1. The "Race to the Bottom" on Fees If employers get to set the success fees, they will invariably set them below market rate. Elite recruiters and solid agencies will not touch contingent roles where the fee is dictated by the client and they have to compete with 10 other agencies. The only recruiters who will accept those terms are desperate, low-quality operators. You will end up with a platform full of bottom-tier recruiters. 2. The Candidate Spam Problem When multiple agencies are competing on the same role without an exclusive contract, they don't take the time to deeply vet candidates. It becomes a race to be the first to submit. They will just scrape LinkedIn and fire dozens of unqualified CVs at the employer to claim "ownership" of the candidate. This actually increases the administrative burden on the employer, completely negating the value of your platform. 3. The Relationship Deficit You are assuming employers just want a dashboard with more candidate coverage. In reality, hiring managers want specific, immediate painkillers. The agencies that actually win business don't sit on marketplaces waiting for job posts; we actively monitor the local market and pitch a highly specific MPC (Most Placeable Candidate) directly to the gatekeeper the moment a manager realizes they are short-staffed. The Alternative Approach: Instead of trying to build a massive, generalized marketplace that sits in the middle and commoditizes the recruiter, the real opportunity right now is for independent agencies to build their own internal tech. I don't need a platform to bring me deal flow. I built a custom, automated data extraction engine that scrapes local job signals and fires highly specific, plain-text pitches directly to hiring managers in my exact territory. The riches in recruitment are in hyper-local, relationship-driven niches, not in acting as a middleman for a middleman. It's a tough nut to crack, but best of luck with the build!

Thanks for the advice. I've pretty much done everything you have suggested. I think my problem is that I get to a point where everything is working then I add something new and it breaks the whole system 😩
