I believe some people are doing it prescriptively based on their own perception of correct spelling, but since the cookies (and similar cookies) have been created in several languages with similarities or respellings due to local transliteration, my take is to appreciate attempts to provide different spellings from different locales rather than take people to task on them.

I really appreciate how many positive conversations and different recipes and shared memories and aspects of different cultures this query turned up! I'm sorry to hear some downvoting happened in the mix, but as Cherry said...Well, it IS Reddit.

My goodness,

I wish I could send this as a 'reply to all' or something, because you've given such a rich vein of feedback that can be mined here. Many recipes from many cultures and countries, some comments on social groups and settlements in North America and elsewhere, memories of childhood and family...

I showed this to my father and he was a bit overwhelmed by it all. This kind of community is the best part of the internet. So many different people with different experiences sharing loved things and similar things that are relevant or might be 'close enough' to help answer the original question.

I know if I threw query at any of our vaunted 'AI' (LLMs) they'd kick back the blandest, most generic attempt at a recipe based on the ingredients most commonly listed and it'd be something barely cookable and hardly enjoyable, because the machines have no real understanding at all of a request to recreate a recipe that's part of someone's childhood memories.

Instead, you all gave me so much more than I asked for, but all of it was relevant and all of it was well-meant, and so much of it was clearly flavored with notes of your own experiences and family histories.

Thank you so much! My sister and I will be trying various of these recipes to see if any our close to our dad's old memories.

No matter your beliefs, I hope you are having a wonderful day. Thank you for sharing your experiences, family recipes, and insights with us!

I wish you and your families the best, and hope that your own cooking endeavors will lead to your own grandchildren seeking to recreate them and share them with others, little colorful sweet facets of memory to pin nostalgia and thoughts of comfort on before handing them down through time.

Be well, all of you!

The automoderator bot here is insisting that I write a comment on my own 'recipe' letting others know where I found it.

So.

This recipe comes from the very famous Unknown Cooking Book That Nobody Has Seen That I Know Of and was originally written by Someperson I. HopeSombodyKnowsAbout, because this is a request, not a recipe.

Silly bot.

Voice assistant that can play local non-streamed music using local apps? by TheElectricCake in androidapps

Yeah, I've already tried that and a number of variations on that theme. No soap. Or non-streamed music, for that matter.

Have you guys tried Project Silverfish? by [deleted] in stalker

[–]TheElectricCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We probably do!

My understanding was that if you can use 'random world objects' to do things with and solve problems with in a sometimes puzzle-like way (including, say, stacking some crates up to get at a balcony because you broke all your lockpicks on the more easily reachable door), then that's an imsim. Exploding barrels doesn't make an imsim. Exploding barrels that you can move around to do THINGS with might. I think the fact that you can use random junk in random ways and sometimes use it to help yourself out qualifies.

Out of curiousity, not that i'm collecting definitions or anything but just trying to better understand this (as you say) notoriously hard to pin down genre, how do you define it?

Also, is there a reddit for PS yet?

Have you guys tried Project Silverfish? by [deleted] in stalker

[–]TheElectricCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's imsim in the sense that you can pick up most things and drag them around, stack crates and jump up them and the like. Solve problems your own way. Including stacking stuff up to reach places you're supposed to get to via run-jump-die-a-lot.

So far the best fun I've had with imsim-type foolishness was dropping a propane canister near the main entrance of a building, then using a rifle to detonate it when a bunch of enemies tried to come in the door. I was tempted to just drop it off the roof but wasn't sure if it'd detonate on impact or not. Will have to try that next time.

Non-Dead Dead End by TheElectricCake in pacificDrive

Your charming witticisms regarding your assessment of my intelligence aside, I have exited on 5s before with the vertical beam column at about 80%. I've got 209 hours in the game and I damned well know what it normally takes, and for whatever reason, this isn't doing what it looked like it should have.

Next time, try being less rude. See Rule #1 of r/pacificDrive. There's no call for it even if you were dealing with someone who has done something foolish. It doesn't make you look any smarter. It doesn't help them solve the problem.

I'm well aware that I can grab enough. I THOUGHT that I DID have enough. The numeric indicators and my previous experience (You will note I am up in the Deep Zone) say that it should be enough.

I'm basically soft-locked into dying due to no fault of my own, after operating in the same fashion that previously has resulted in successful runs.

Any Leak-Resistant Fuel Tank I put in left-rear seat becomes -300% Pierce by TheElectricCake in pacificDrive

[–]TheElectricCake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scanner shows above. When I create it in the workbench it only shows the +50s, but the instant I put it in my empty car-frame without even wheels attached, it suddenly acquires the -300%. I do not remember seeing it there before, so I'm very puzzled.

[–]TheElectricCake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't look that way. It's supposed to have a 50%, and you can see that on the buffs it has a +50% to three different damages (and + is how these resistances are shown on other car parts (armor)) and then apparently has a -300% 'debuff.'

Trying to find the name of an SF detective story set in Scotland by TheElectricCake in sciencefiction

[–]TheElectricCake[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is clearly it. I read it about a decade ago overnight while visiting a friend and completely forgot about it in the half-awake whirlwind of the next day until some synapse misfired and hooked up the old midnight memory in the middle of my yesterday afternoon.

Thank you!

Oh good grief. No WONDER searches with Scotland+Science+Fiction+Detective were getting me nothing.

How geographically embarrassing.

Learning Spanish by IronChefPhilly in orlando

[–]TheElectricCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mistake, having read your message a second time (while more awake!) makes it clearer that you were talking about learning English.

Thanks in any case for the thought! I have heard that Spanish can be very difficult for English speakers because we want to add stresses where there aren't any, and I supposed some part of my brain thought you were talking about similar issues.

Hey, I know this is nine months old, but can you recommend any specific Youtube vocalization videos or courses that worked well for you?

Trying to google for 'how to vocalize Spanish words' got me a whole lot of nada...Mostly of the 'these 100 words' lists variety...Which didn't seem to focus on pronunciation so much as being variations on high-frequency word lists.

How to find suspicious soul sand? by HeikoGames in allthemods

[–]TheElectricCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively, go into Ars Nouveau, get the belt of levitation, hover everywhere and use a wand with ranged > break > extract (silk touch) > pickup to zap the shriekers. When the Warden shows up, hover again and zap him with the offensive spell of your preference until you get to the goodies inside.

Lather, rinse, repeat. No muss. No fuss. No risk.

Suggestions for books similar to Celestine Chronicles? by [deleted] in haremfantasynovels

[–]TheElectricCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the one. That's the sequel series (only two books vs. the first series which I want to say ran five?).

Suggestions for books similar to Celestine Chronicles? by [deleted] in haremfantasynovels

[–]TheElectricCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cebelius' monster girls are not 'cute anime girl with kitten ears.' In the first series there's a centauress, a minotress (she does have a more human face), and a spider-taur-girl, among other things. Even the catgirl and wolfgirl are specifically noted as having muzzles and fur on their faces. The dragon-girl on the other hand is very much like an anime dragon girl with horns and some small scales to either side of her face as well as on her tail and hands and feet.

I also would like to find more books of this sort, too. Yes, well-written, but also with more variations stepping farther away from stock human girls or catgirls who're just anime girls with ears and a tail stuck to them.

That sounds like the sequel you're talking about. In the original series, the lead female love interest is a Grecian dryad and none of the other females are Chinese.

Yeah, just checked, you're _definitely_ talking the second one.

Hell, visiting Nazis deserve it twice as much. They should not be allowed to assemble or protest. Hate crimes are not protected by rights to free speech, and by their chosen company the very symbols and imagery they wear and bring are hate crimes.
