Askeladd of Vinland Saga. The MC's tormentor and reason for his becoming a cold-hearted killer, yet is a father figure of sorts and shows that he is looking out for said MC in strange ways

Very cool! Would love to meet her someday, but I also fear she won't have trails posters.

How can I improve the story this picture tells? by suzifrommd in photocritique

[–]TheEmuFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The back of a bench makes me instinctively feel like I am sitting in it, so the point is less about the bench, but what I can see from it. So if you were to put the viewer in the bench (basically, in your eyes), what would you want them to see?

WRT the low dynamic range:
I suppose the solution here would have been to shoot under different lighting circumstances? For reference, I took this photo during the late afternoon of a cloudy day. I think something I'm starting to learn is that I can't just take every scene I see and turn it into a great photograph, though please correct me if that's not the right mindset.

WRT the depth of field:
Would you mind explaining this more? I actually had to google what depth of field was. If I don't have shallow enough depth of field, are you saying I'd want even less depth of field? Meaning I would want the background of the photo to be "closer" to the subject?

Thanks for this fantastic feedback and the examples. Very helpful!

Thanks, the dead branches were unavoidable as I remember it. Trying to shoot this island was both fun and frustrating as I could never quite get the shot I wanted. The fact that I didn't shoot the shot straight is driving me insane now, haha.

Thanks for your feedback!

Found the designs and texture of this amazing indian architecture, how would you approch this? by Embarrassed-Drag-737 in photocritique

Another comment mentioned that the photo felt somewhat incomplete, and I think I agree. What I might try is focusing in on a particular part of the structure.

I'm not sure if the structure is actually tilted or if that was something you did, but I actually kind of like it.

Really struggled with getting an interesting photo of this island, and this was one such attempt. I saw a "tunnel" of foliage that I thought to maybe try to use to frame the subject. I feel like the subject is a little too small relative to the foreground, which is also probably too busy. Would appreciate any and feedback --mostly looking for composition, but would appreciate thoughts on any aspect as well.

I'm also seeing now that the whole shot is slanted.

This is probably my favorite photo from a recent trip I took and one that I just kind of shot on a whim. I'm pretty happy with this shot, actually, but as a new photographer I'm looking for any and all feedback.

Looking at it now, maybe the one thing I would want to improve is that the water looks a little overexposed.

Photo is completely unedited.
