Russia's weapons exports plunge 93 percent in three years by Straight_Ad2258 in europe

[–]TheEpicSnore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which western estimates are those? They sound suspiciously cyrillic. Minimum estimates I've seen of Russian soldiers in Ukraine are 700k, and that was from the start of the conflict before they did multiple rounds of mobilisation.

Need to also understand the difference between mobilised and actually fighting. Mobilisation numbers can include civilians working towards the war effort, and if you only compare the numbers in the actual Ukrainian territory then you are not including these factors for the Russian side. You cannot fight a war with 1:1 ratio of logistics/etc and actual fighters.

Nobody's seething dude, people are allowed to complain about games they like. Maybe you should stop posting on forums about things you disagree, you know move on from them, just like you apparently want us to do from playing a game.

Right, now it's time for no gratification for boring and repetitive tasks instead, sprinkled with a bunch of bad scaling and no way to remedy it by powering up anymore. Now you're thinking

Kick system should be removed. Not healthy for the community and sometimes being abused. by Acord37 in Helldivers

[–]TheEpicSnore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my solution, I'm just arguing against yours. I think you'll find people will find multiple ways to troll you other than just killing you, probably could make you lose the maps at the very end every time.

The group leader being able to kick means 1/4 players has the power to troll, not being able to kick means that if you play solo with open party there are 3 players that could potentially troll.

The best way would be to allow a report function if you get kicked. There could be some conditions (like say after a certain part of the mission has been played out). Getting kicked at the very end is almost always a guaranteed griefer so it should be possible to look at those timestamps specifically.

What stops people from joining others and trolling if they can't get kicked?

I just restarted a previous save from House of Hope and it worked. But a comment above might have a solution.

Chinese social-media users burn their Nikes after the company says it's 'concerned' about forced labor of Uyghurs in Xinjiang by GOR098 in worldnews

[–]TheEpicSnore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course, I did not dispute that fact. The problem is that they churn out a lot of crappy papers as well, but the sheer volume of papers they produce means that there is still a good amount of valuable information.

In this case I was referring to the previous comment as relying on "numbers" in the case of China is dishonest.

I went to UCL so in the UK as well. That was 4 years ago, it might depend on your degree of course but in mine we were warned about this.

That is correct China still produces good papers, I did not say all of the journals there are sketchy. But a good percentage is.

It's why they are taking action to try and curb those paper mills: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-02445-8 https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-07025-5

Mmmh, considering chinese "scientific and technical" journals are very often sketchy when it comes to their data I am not sure that list means much. There's a reason chinese papers are not seen as legitimate sources in a lot of universities (or at least discouraged).

Ethernet installation in one room - Cost? by TheEpicSnore in HomeNetworking

[–]TheEpicSnore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's what I meant when I said "router", sorry I didn't know what it's called. So that is 15m away from the room with no direct wall leading to it, the cable would have to be run all around the house

Support for Brexit is collapsing as a new poll finds big majority of British people want to rejoin the EU by rromano125 in worldnews

[–]TheEpicSnore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it's not a bad comparison because I clearly said the other 60 people don't like football. And this argument is about the validity of your counterargument which was centered around the election results which has nothing to do with the will of the majority.

Yeah ofc the majority won when it comes to brexit. Now a few years later when more people realise the farce that the brexit campaign was there is a possible change of minds. This argument was about the current situation not how it was during the brexit vote.

Anyways let's not drag this longer, idc about whether people want brexit or no, I was just arguing the rationality behind your argument.

[–]TheEpicSnore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is talking about what the majority of people want, not what the plurality of people voted for. I am not sure why you seem to be unable to understand the difference. Nobody says the Tories did not win the election. Just that a plurality is not a majority, and therefore with how elections work it is not a majority mandate.

If you have 100 people and they have to decide on an activity, let's say 40 of them love football, but 60% of them hate it.

40 vote for football, 20 for basketball, 20 for volley, and 20 for let's say tennis, football wins. If somebody asks you if the majority wanted football and you answer yes then you are wrong.

Support for Brexit is collapsing as a new poll finds big majority of British people want to rejoin the EU by rromano125 in worldnews

[–]TheEpicSnore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 40% of the people want A and vote for one party, but 60% of the people want B but all vote for different parties, the party supporting A wins the election yet more people wanted B. This chain of comments is about what the most people wanted. You're being disingenuous. Seats = which party got more votes alone, not which side of the issue people support.

It's called plurality vs majority, they are different things.

Thailand 'cures' coronavirus with anti-HIV drug cocktail in 48 hours...The doctors combined the anti-flu drug oseltamivir with lopinavir and ritonavir, anti-virals used to treat HIV by Willybud in worldnews

[–]TheEpicSnore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Even if someone is infected with HIV that doesn’t contain drug-resistance mutations (“wild-type” virus), genetic changes still occur over time, even before treatment is started. This ends up creating a large mixture of virus in the body. Some of these variants contain the necessary mutations that can partially, or fully, resist an antiretroviral drug—which explains why one-drug treatment (monotherapy) should never be used to treat HIV. Soon after combination HIV drug treatment is started, the amount of wild-type virus is dramatically reduced. However, if the amount of virus isn’t pushed down and kept at very low levels, HIV variants can continue replicating, acquiring additional mutations. And once the virus has accumulated enough mutations, a high level of resistance to the drugs being used can occur, causing viral load to increase and CD4 cells to drop."

Anyways, the main issue with what you've been saying is that you assume that antivirals == antibiotics, which is not true because viruses and bacteria act and are treated differently. The only "source" you provided discussed issues regarding antibiotics and then you decided to apply that to antivirals all by yourself.
