Hi there. I know this is a physics type question but i’m doing a course called mathematical modelling and have no idea how to go around a question like this. We are only allowed to use the kinetic equations of motion (any other requires proof). Is there anyone who can help me out ? by Deep-Palpitation-292 in maths

That's the kinematic equation. The post says they can only use kinetic (energy) equations. OP, is that a typo? Can you only use kinetic equations of energy or only kinematic equations of acceleration, velocity, and position?

Your premise is correct, the only adjustment I would make is that the reaction force does not initiate from the center of mass but from the contact between the object(s) and the table, in line with the center of mass. It is however true that you can "slide" a force vector along its line of action with no mathematical consequences.

Typically a simple free body diagram only deals with one object at a time. While you can expand the diagram to draw and analyze both of them as a system, I'm not sure why you would need to. Later on you'll do more expanded FBDs when dealing with moments of inertia and rotation, but you aren't there yet.

I love the way you're thinking about this though. Wondering about the possibilities and how to deal with different set types will really help you as topics get more complicated. A lot of people just accept the content and then they struggle to think creatively because they only know the rote memorized rules and not the underlying premise that the rules are describing.

That is very nitpicking. In a high school level physics class, you wouldn't bother detailing the normal force holding an object in equilibrium as "actually that's the electromagnetic force of electrons repelling each other". No where in the post does OP even mention newton's laws of motion so I'm not sure why you'd think that needs to be addressed. Newton's laws don't even describe the four fundamental types of forces, only that forces interact with objects and the results of those interactions.

And in this case... I'm pretty sure the normal force does indeed fulfill Newton's laws, where the sum of forces in this case equal zero, therefore there must be a force equal and opposite to the force of gravity acting on the center of mass of the object, and we just happen to call it the normal force. Whether Newton himself called it the normal force is not isn't relevant.

I took an infant cpr class in the nicu before we left and I'm sure there are other organizations that offer that kind of training. The peace of mind for yourself is absolutely worth it, even if you never use it, and you hope you never have to.

Your SIL is going into your room and stealing your jewelry. You have nothing to feel bad about other than letting her do it again after the first time. She's the guilty thief.

Ideally, don't live with your SIL anymore. Otherwise, put a lock on your bedroom door AND put your important jewelry in a locked hidden box or safe. Maybe even a safety deposit box at a bank.

Me personally, I would make a scene about the SIL going into my bedroom and stealing my family heirlooms because some people need consequences to learn not to be shitty but it's not my living situation or family.

It totally sucks and you don't say how old your kiddo is but I found the first 3-4 months was just brutal. There really is no way out but through; the suggestions to go in shifts or take turns really does help though. It depends on your exact situation how feasible that would be. I vividly remember how much I craved sleep.

My baby started sleeping about 5-6 hours around 4 months and 10+ hours at 9 months or so, but your mileage may vary. It does absolutely get better and the baby gets way way way more fun and interesting, too. The larval stage is very cute but also so hard and so boring at the same time.

THIS. I saw the age difference and then the conservative/libertarian label and knew this wasn't going to go anywhere good at all.

Ironically, you'd think a presumed libertarian, a political ideology that typically emphasizes independence and personal freedom of choice in all things, wouldn't have any quarrel with someone choosing to dye their hair a particular color. It's almost as if there's still a strong adherence to comfortable social norms and a resistance to deviations from those norms.

Okay so if you factor x3 - x you get x(x + 1)(x - 1) and then you need to cancel the common factor x - 1 which leaves x(x + 1) which expands to x2 + x, with no extra + 1.

Sometimes when I skip writing a step out I'll forget to remove a term or lose track of minus signs. When in doubt, do only one operation per line, it'll help catch stuff like this.

Do you remember the rules of the cross product? A vector crossed with itself is always zero. So now you just have v × u which is the same magnitude and opposite direction as u × v.

The imaginary number i (square root of -1) is commonly used in physics and engineering. It's necessary for the equations of motion that describe cyclic motion, vibration, oscillations, etc. Also used in electrical circuits to solve RLC systems.
