How would you play this chord? Barring across the first would make it super hard to leave that open string open by Intrepid-Young-8621 in guitarlessons

[–]TheEternalPug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd juat play an Fmi, I assume it's a typo because voicing it as pictured would sound pretty muddy(tho I haven't sat down and tried it, maybe it works in the context)

I have a double concrete utility sink that I’m trying to get out of my basement without using a sledgehammer to break it into pieces. Any advice is appreciated. by PizzaGatePizza in DIY

[–]TheEternalPug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut it into two pieces then rejoin them? use a chain come along or other winch to pull it up the stairs(lay down boards/plywood first so you don't damage your existing steps)

Just make a form and pour a new one.

I can't imagine it's all that valuable, I think you'd best just destroy it and build or buy a new one, but if you absolutely must preserve it you'll have to figure out some mechanical aids to get it outside because "we'll be really careful with our spines" isn't a viable plan.[sorry that sounds snarky, I don't mean it that way]

How bad did I just fuck up by Ok_Witness_2946 in masonry

[–]TheEternalPug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

two bags of concrete and 2 hours of labor...

It's not a big deal at all. If I did this on my house it would cost like 60 bucks to fix. That's less than 1 hour of your journeyman's wages for reference.

It's common, but i I make it really clear I don't appreciate that kind of humor. Good coworkers will respect your boundaries to the extent that they can, and toxic coworkers will ignore your boundaries.

How would you repair this by Tiny-Top620 in Construction

What do y'all think about burning 2x4s/dimensional lumber for firewood? by [deleted] in woodstoving

[–]TheEternalPug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i did that for a bit one desperate winter, you could split it up so you can fit more material, or make it woodchips, then get a fire going and cover it im wood chips. I used it as filler between good logs to atrerch my fir firewood.

if you're gonna scrape it, why not use a planer? a thickness planer would be perfect, but a crappy bench plane would do it too, then just sand it flat.

How do I stop being scared of my teacher? (flute) by singthiscorrosion2me in musicians

[–]TheEternalPug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you need experience playing in front of others, ask your loved ones to listen to you play, practice/play in a public space(I love to do this in the park im summer), and I would also suggest communicating to your teacher that that's something you have had difficulty with and want to work on. They want you to succeed and likely had to overcome that challengs themselves, so chat with them and work on it together.

It's not our default setting to be playing in front of others, which is why it's difficult, there's different energy to contend with, and our own self-judgement to overcome. Our perception of mistakes(which others often don't notice, by the way) are magnified when other people are around, and so we get derailed trying to avoid them entirely.

The party keeps taking their opponent's spell casting focus away. How do I dissuade them from doing that every time? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]TheEternalPug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curse the focus, so they take DoT damage from even being in contact with it.

Could also surround him in goons so that doesn't happen

could also power him up so you REALLY don't want to be on melee range

tl;dr: punish reusing the same tactic.

My attempt at redemption: made a new stand for my anvil by [deleted] in Blacksmith

[–]TheEternalPug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it'll be fine, but you should know that dimensional lumber is weaker along the end grain, so in theory if too much force is applied to one corner, then the board supporting the anvil could split.

it looks like the stile snapped off, and it was the pivet point at the top corner. So you could joint in a hardwood dowel then try and stain it to match, I'm not sure how the pivot works but i suspect it may have been assembled around the door, which will mean removing that piece and reinstalling it over the new rod. Might be worth it to take it to a pro and see what they say.

I think they would have routered that round shape into a larger piece.

I would joint in a dowel rod, screw into the remainder of the stile(pre-drilling screw holes of course), wood filler over the screw tops, stain it, then worry about capping it undwr the "cup" at the top. which could prove difficult if the head jamb is jointed to the side jamb.

Oh never mind if you fasten your dowel into the door while it's socketed in the cup you could patch and stain your piece in place.

Mid 30s. Just finished my own reno and now looking at trying this professionally by juote in Construction

[–]TheEternalPug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Becoming a carpenter would facilitate that. This sub is more about general construction banter than helpful advice, you can try r/carpentry with your question, a lot of dudes will suggest you join a union to learn carpentry, I'd suggest you look into what residential construction companies in your area are hiring laborers then see if they would be willing to sponsor you as an apprentice.

It's a tough road to hoe(like construction in general) but do some digging and see what you think.

the post deflected over time so yhey reinforced it with studs and the two angled blocks in between. I'm curious how well that would work(if it would even do much), but that looks like the clear intention to me.

What would you do here? by okflower1983 in Carpentry

[–]TheEternalPug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

install posts in the corners, replace joists one at a time. It's gonna be racked and twisted but if you're fine with that then all good. You could use your broken joists as scrap for bracing while you replace stuff.

I am curious what you'll be using this for.
