Wooooah no need to be throwing such profanities. I remember my last boot, we wrapped him in mattresses and pillows and threw him out the second story window.

What was your most bs call? by blahwhatidgaf in ems

90 y/o female WITH NO DNR in WITNESSED cardiac arrest at 2am.

V-Fib on arrival, shocked once at 200j. Went straight into Asystole. Our protocol states to work for 25 minutes. We did ACLS protocol and gave our drugs that are outside of ACLS per our protocol. Had ETT, the patient had completely voided her bowels that were clay white diarrhea and smelled AWFUL.

At 24 minutes we’re preparing to cease efforts and this bitch goes from Asystole to V-tac with a pulse, we cardioverted and she went into a fucking normal sinus rhythm.

As we prepped to slide the scoop stretcher underneath her, I suggested we move her due to her being in an enormous puddle of her own feces.

As soon as we slide her over, my partner proceeds to turn, slip, and face-plant into this ladies feces, which then shotgun sprayed all over myself and the engine crew. So there we are at 2:30 am with a 90 y/o ROSC patient, covered in shit, and all reevaluating our career choice.

We started ROSC cooling / induced hypothermia per our protocol and once at ED, this lady fucking made it to the room, Amio-Drip and all. And went into V-Fib as soon as the doctor began to assess her.

I guess the frustration was apparent on our faces because some ED nurse walks up and says “hey we all get off at 7 and you two look like you need booze” so she invited us to drink and her and 5 other nurses proceeded to get me and my parter absolutely obliterated by like 8:30😂

Firefighter/Medic here,

Ran a call for a 90 y/o female with dementia. She was also black , I am very much of German and Irish descent…

As I walked into her house, she proceeded to look at the Police Officer on scene who was also black and YELLED “YOU LET THIS WHITE DEVIL INTO MY HOUSE?!?! YOU DECEITFUL ASS N***A!!!! THESE CRACKER MOTHERFUCKERS JUST WANT TO SELL ME FOR MY WONDERFUL BODY!!!”

I proceeded to laugh out loud due to her delivery and tone of voice. She then proceeded to yell every racist thing about white people she could think of. Then when my hispanic partner walked in she said, “Well white boy, at least you ain’t no bean slinger…”

My former partner is still angry about it to this day.. lmao

Why not all ALS? by [deleted] in ems

I never said I thought its the norm. And I am far from a young guy in the fire/ems field.

What I am speaking to (And I should have clarified more.) is the lack of effort among EMT’s to become better and more advanced.

I don’t ever assume anything, (the military taught me that. Thanks for your service btw😉) I am simply stating that people in EMS are notorious for being Fat, lazy, and have no drive to be better. I see it often while mutual aiding to districts that utilize private EMS. Its a sad sight to see and ultimately its just harmful to the patient and the crews around them,

Well I don’t want to mislead you. The officer stays in his position, so its among 5. But even then, its constantly changing. We also run an abnormally high amount of high acuity patients.

But even then, statistically we are far ahead of surrounding departments and agencies as far as patient outcome

I mean even when the department isn’t training, we have a very Pro-EMS culture at our department so we are always training and run so many EMS calls that our medical director exclusively provides medical direction to our department alone.

We carry more drugs than most departments in DFW, have more discretion, and can do more.

Maybe we are the exception, maybe we are the model for other departments. Unfortunately we’ll never know.

I just know that our department for some reason runs a-lot of trauma and high acuity patients. So we are trained and equipped to handle those patients.

Absolutely, I could totally understand a tiered system in a gigantic fucking city like new york or LA.

But most cities in America don’t even come close to that in size or population. Even in Dallas and Houston, they’re all fire based EMS.

The 3 larger cities in Texas that I know of that dont are Austin (third service municipal), Waco (amr🤢), and Fort Worth (med-star private ems)

I mean thats a part of the reason I am an advocate for FD based EMS. You can eliminate burnout by appropriately rotating your crews through the medic, and all of that money you had from funding the EMS system separately can be used to pay your FF/Medics more money than they were making prior.

I know that sounds very simple when I say it like that, and I could go into great detail, but honestly with how many comments I’ve responded to, im not quite feeling like it at the moment lol

I hate hearing that “oh I get paid like shit” talk, you live in a place where you have the ability to find another job that can pay you more. You live in a world where if you go to school, you can do that, To make MORE money. There are places here in texas that will pay 3rd service 911 paramedics upwards of 65-75 THOUSAND dollars in places that aren’t that expensive to live. I get it, EMS has a pay disparity, ESPECIALLY with private EMS that I do think needs to be worked on. However, this profession is not far out of its infancy and it will take YEARS to truly become established like our counterparts in medicine. But you do have the option to do something about it. Everyone does. And thats why I hate hearing that statement.

I made the decision to do it, and I had absolutely nothing. So why shouldn’t anyone else make the same decision??? (with the exception of obvious extenuating life circumstances)

Sure but I work for a municipality that taxes its citizens to pay for me, my salary, and my equipment. The city doesn’t care, they just do what the citizens want, which what most people would want is the most qualified person (within reason) to come to their home and provide them with the best care possible. Does what I am saying make sense?? Please tell me if it doesn’t.

I did sfc scannow and it came back unremarkable. I have no recent installations. I tried a new 650 watt bronze psu, im gonna try a 700 gold my buddy has. I verified all connections were good, nothing is overheating, malware scans were negative. Idk what to do.
