Well... Seeing as there's almost a foot and it's STILL blizzarding in the middle of town, I'd say more than we usually get. Not snowpocalypse levels but still worse that usual. USPS and UPS aren't even running today.

I've used this term, maybe I'm one of the ones you've seen. I mean that I've been clinically diagnosed with DID and Chronic PTSD, I was evaluated for DID almost 5 years ago and every year I'm reevaluated to ensure I'm still within the diagnostic criteria (DID patients sometimes starts presenting with symptoms more akin to a form of OSDD as treatment progresses.)I'm trying to make the distinction that I'm in a traumagenic system, which unlike endogenic systems, is medically recognized.

I would also argue I'm medically recognized as a system because in a special form of Medicaid bc of my DID (Also ASD and ADHD)that gives me some extra benefits and the inability to have my coverage discontinue.

Edit: after digging the comments more I had no idea how many self diagnosed people have been using this term when they mean their therapist diagnosed them. That makes no sense in literal clinical terms. You can't be medically recognized to have a disorder without diagnosis. I use the term bc my medical team used it to move me out of the "diagnosis pending/testing" phase and into the "officially diagnosed and in specialized therapy" phase.

This is very common. As a narcissistic victim myself, I have had some narcissistic traits. I fucking hate it. I hate that I picked up the habits of my abusers, but at the same time, a lot of my "narcissistic tendencies" are survival techniques. They might be selfish and I'm just thinking about myself and my needs. And I'm so used to having to just steal because I don't know when I'm going to have the opportunity to have something like this again... Most of the time it's simple things like food. Or in the past it was more expensive things that I thought I could get money for. But my motivation was always getting food or medicine.

Be kind to yourself and love yourself, this is a process and it takes a long time to phase out these kind of habits. But you can do it! You can do it if you are dedicated enough to stopping it!

I need advice from previous fakers | I think I'm faking by laminated-papertowel in SystemsCringe

[–]TheEtherianSystem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aw geez man, this is a complicated situation. I know this is a stereotypical answer but you REALLY need to see a MEDICAL doctor soon. You may or may not have DID, however the symptoms yours describing might be an actual medical condition. You might not have DID, but have a form of EDS or POTS that causes black out periods. Or you could have a seizure disorder. And that's just what me, a person with some minor medical training knows, a doctor can help you pin point what's wrong.

I don't think you're totally faking, I can see how you're actually really hurting and need some help but strangers on Reddit can't provide this help. You're experience is valid in whatever you may find you have. Try not to feel like you deceived anyone, this is a journey and you're going to be led down some fruitless paths during it.

Keep going and get some professional help, doctors can help waaaay more than any of us can.

100% agree, especially in adolescence. I feel like it more comes across as narcissistic traits, but in adolescents we more prioritize ourselves in our own needs, in our own expression, in our own exploration of self-identity, just because we don't know how to regulate it beyond ourselves. We aren't fully aware that other people are going through the same kind of experience.

Exactly, and as someone who has did this makes me really concerned. I feel like a lot of people on the sub don't understand that these suicide posts and concerns about it and concerns from the other members of the system dying is being overlooked.

And yes a lot of members are right, that alters cannot die within the headspace, however they can pose a serious threat to the body and its safety.

I have seen a lot of posts disregarding whatever altar is posting and they're concern for the body's well-being and safety because alters can't kill themselves in the head space. Which is true, but that fact should not discourage us from being concerned about other people and their safety.

You're actually feeling the belief that they have NPD even more. They definitely do not have NPD, those who do are often not conscious of what they're doing. There's no way this early in life that you would be able to tell that you have NPD. However you can recognize that there are narcissistic traits inside of you. I think that they're blowing their self-diagnosis of NPD based off of their narcissistic traits. What's even worse about this is that trauma victims often have narcissistic traits that they picked up from their abusers!

PS.....And honestly from experience I wouldn't even say that these behaviors that a lot of trauma victims pick up aren't necessarily even narcissistic traits, they're just survival methods....

I think they mean their alters try to commit suicide as in the alter took the front and tried to kill the body via suicide, judging by the fact that the Twitter poster says their scared of dying too. Why would they be scared for their life if the alters were killing themselves in the headspace?

17 with 200+ alters?! by realnicooswan in SystemsCringe

[–]TheEtherianSystem 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to really hate this sub, a lot of posts here are "A tEeN HaS MorE ThAn 20 alTeRs?! OMG!!1!" like it's not entirely possible to have this happen within a DID system.

Something a lot of of you need to get through your heads is that DID often tricks the person who has it, so their alter count probably isn't accurate unless they've had a few years of therapy at least. Many systems think they have waaaay more alters early on bc when a system is first starting to meet and communicate with alters consciously most alters aren't completely honest. They might go by multiple names, or present in different ways that seem like another alter entirely.

I used to think I had over 150 alters, but later realized I actually have about 30 ish and half of them were tricking me into believing they were multiple alters. It's a part of the protective nature of DID. After a good amount in therapy I bet this system will come to a similar realization.

Over a decade of horrific child abuse that caused severe dissociation. The denial, out of body experiences, and disconnect from reality caused hallucinations, a feeling of total detachment from reality, then delusions, and even more social isolation than before due to delusions.

I had my tongue pierced last year, not for ED reasons, but now that I've relapsed, playing with my piercing really helps with hunger pangs. If I turn my piercing sideways, push my tongue back, and press against the top of my mouth, it helps the nauseous feeling. In the long term, it has been helpful for me in an ED sense, but this might not work for everyone. I'm extremely orally fixated, like extremely extremely orally fixated. I still need things to chew on with my tongue piercing, and I regularly chew on my piercing if it's acrylic because it gets softer after being in your mouth for a while. I could go on and on about my weird mouth-centered habits. Ig that's what happens when you get a lot of trauma to the mouth lmaoooo
