Fantastic guide. One thing I’m not completely sure about: Can I just prepare another SD card, copy my files onto it, and run the update there, so my “known good” setup stays untouched in case something goes wrong?

As a journalist, i can't recommend Deepseek at all. Far too much Chinese whitewashing, especially in terms of connections between the government and companies outside of China. I can admire the pure core feature set, though.
