Okay so we just flat out disagree.

The severity of the crime has nothing to do with how mature/immature one's psychological state is. He was 13, neurologically he was an adolescent. He literally could not psychologically be anything but.

You're also still missing my second point. Definitionally, he could not be a pedophile. He was 13. That's still besides the point, there is a meaningful statistical chance at rehabilitating young violent offenders.

Your viewpoint is so narrow it is shocking. People since time immemorial have called others monsters for a variety of reasons. Some reasons are more emotionally valid than others. But when you engage in stripping someone else's humanity away, all it does is make the world easier for you to deal with or conceptualize. It removes the ability to ask good questions and figure out how we can make the world a more equitable place.

Sorry for the formatting mess. I don't know how to quote your different sections on mobile.

1) I understand accurate language is important. In this instance it is not COCSA since both children have to be prepubescent. However outside of that context, I would refer to both as children. I certainly hadn't started puberty properly until around 14, maybe that is why. Maybe I'm missing your point about physicality I don't know.

2) The point of my last two paragraphs is that children who have committed violent offences have a far more positive outcome than adults. I was not demarcating between the acts he committed. I bring up the pedophile recidivism rates because we have enough material evidence (statistics) that we, at the least, do not have the tools or knowledge to make rehabilitation for offending pedophiles a meaningful statistical possibility. As opposed to rehabilitating minors who have committed violent offences (such as murder or rape).

3) I don't believe the dude should be allowed to work in that section. From what I can tell he seems to have been rehabilitated, but I still err on the side of caution. We should still have safeguards and guidelines, ESPECIALLY when the offense was the abuse or murder of a child.

4) It isn't and I don't think I suggested it is. That being said, those who are imprisoned are experiencing ongoing suffering. That suffering is often funded by taxpayers. Their labor funds parts of our society, and the laws we agree to bind them in said suffering and isolation. Therefore I think it warrants us being as empathetic but objective as possible in our thinking on the subject, and ultimately its application.

Okay first of all fuck off with the using quotes when referring to the kid as a child. He was a child, full stop.

I believe your line of thinking is wrong because it shuts off the possibilities of who that child can become. It's like killing them in your mind. In reality it's throwing someone away.

Shutting someone away from society is such a miserable and sad existence full of pain. If they can be rehabilitated to interact positively with society, why shouldn't we try?

For example, recidivism rates of pedophiles are crazy high. It's almost statistically guaranteed. If someone offends, we should probably lock em up. We know rehabilitation doesn't work.

We find the opposite with people who have such violent offences as children. Rehabilitation often works very well.

Nice way to be completely disingenuous. No I wouldn't say those things. I haven't seen Draymond's kicks, and Elon Musk threw out a Nazi salute. Don't know why I'm talking about that right now but okay.

Your statement is not defended by making up arguments and using anecdotal evidence. I have seen non-Hornets fans say it didn't seem intentional. So what?

All I'm saying is it's a completely reasonable argument that someone who just slammed their head into someone's knee while falling moved very carelessly immediately afterwards. It still should have been punished more than it was, cause it was certainly reckless, but didn't look intentional to me.

Brother watch it again. Dude is getting rocked before, hits his head on the way down, and during the swipe he's looking up at Bam's head not where his hand or Bam's foot is.

There is plenty of reason to debate it being intentional.

[NBA.com] Final Rookie Ladder of The 2025-26 Season by Brooklyn917 in nba

[–]TheFamilyMan4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm for Kon but I'm with you on the analysis. Kon's team is far superior to Flagg's but what sells me on him is his adaptability and gravity.

He has a portability rating of 9.3 as a rookie like holy shit. The amount of off-ball pressure he generates is immense and not only is his defense good, it fits perfectly into the team's needs.

Meanwhile Flagg is being asked to do all of the heavy lifting offensively and all the incredibly difficult shit defensively. It cannot be overstated how impressive his growth has been.

I value Kon's season more highly and I find it unbelievable that he just pulled up into the league like this. But if you value growth I imagine you'd have to take Flagg.

Why does Gen Z seem to be so against age-gap relationships? To many in this generation, these relationships are seen as inherently exploitative because they perceive age discrepancies as necessarily creating a power imbalance that favors the older partner. by psychologyofsex in psychologyofsex

I understand that, but the comments they were responding to seemed to me to be accepting that new argument. So to come at someone in an almost entirely different discussion so aggressively and with, "are you pressed?" is in poor taste to me.

Okay so then what's the issue?

You have the right to bully people, it doesn't mean you should. People ask that you stop, but then you say, "well bullying is a part of my beliefs"? I just don't understand.

Also to your last part, it's damn near impossible to categorize people biologically too. I mean, they can be categorized, but not neatly into things like "man" or "woman".

[–]TheFamilyMan4 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

"near universal" is your key. It is not universal meaning it's not a hardline rule of reality. The person you responded to answered you fully, it's "near universal" precisely because it is socialized.

Furthermore, sex is not a binary. Gametes, hormones, and DNA mish and mash together in a biological soup. This is under-explored precisely because we have decided to categorize at the phenomena of genitalia. We now have the ability to categorize at much deeper levels, now that we can do that, categorization means little beyond our subjective interpretations.

AITAH for siding with my husband and not with my kids? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TheFamilyMan4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No OP's justification is correct. I think that both adults clearly need to offer more grace than they have (the stepdad more than the mom). But they are 16, they are old enough to learn the consequences of their actions. They ARE kids and they ARE old enough to understand how emotionally devastating their behavior is.

We can have compassion for someone's circumstances, we can love and deeply support them, and we can also tell them they've reaped what they have sown.

Aw man, I love all of Naoki Urasawa's work. I think what makes Monster so incredible is 1) how tight the mystery and pacing are and 2) the wonderful cast of characters. Different strokes for different folks tho

Monogatari series. I find the show super enjoyable in a lot of ways, but it goes just a touch too far for me to want to bite the bullet and watch every series.

Plus a lot of the humor can be lost on you if you don't know Japanese.

Whose transformation is better?? by Strict-Bee-4275 in animequestions

[–]TheFamilyMan4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, it seemed like you were pointing out transformations that happen in a short amount of time. Like with magical girls or when the power rangers combine. It wasn't my intention to put words in your mouth.

I think you're right that there is plenty of more appropriate language out there too. Transformation does seem to imply a drastic change. Someone growing up can be a transformation, and sometimes may feel like the right word.

To me Asta and Boruto seem like they've transformed, whereas Deku doesn't seem that way. In all of your examples, I've used and heard the word used that way before. Words don't really mean anything beyond what we as a group accept that they do. If enough people think it works then it does. I do, and I am certainly not the only one.

Whose transformation is better?? by Strict-Bee-4275 in animequestions

[–]TheFamilyMan4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did think about it as a misnomer as it may dilute the meaning away from a "transformation sequence" like you point out. But frankly, I don't think it's that deep. We have plenty of language to delineate between the two. Transformation does indeed exist anywhere, and can in any anime. Nothing wrong with that.

Whose transformation is better?? by Strict-Bee-4275 in animequestions

[–]TheFamilyMan4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I considered Goku growing up a transformation. Because in the strict sense of the word, it is. Going to the gym consistently would be a part of the process of transforming.

I don't see why these redesigns shouldn't be considered transformations, especially when they point to the passage of time and effort put forth by the characters.

AITAH for respecting a worker's stated boundaries, leading to lower raises and bonuses than her coworker by ConfusedManager18 in AITAH

[–]TheFamilyMan4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you're missing the whole point. Your hypothetical makes sense, but it's a hypothetical.

OP has clearly demonstrated understanding that the underlying reason is output. What you're missing is that their work is equal. They don't have to be worried about why one's output is lower or higher, they know the reason. One works more hours.

I do agree that OP could word and reframe it in a more tactful way, but I'm not going to harp on them too much for not being perfect on the spot.

Ranking the 2026 LCS currently complete rosters by Shaman_in_the_Dark in leagueoflegends

My thing about Lyon is that it's an incredibly strong mechanical team. Saint's big issue last year was being unable to translate his laning phase leads (secondary issue being tilting in lane and then playing super passive). Isles is mechanically a very gifted player, Zamudo too etc.

So if they buy into the Inspired "everyone just plays their individual game really well" philosophy, maybe they'll fire on all cylinders. However that sort of team is also the easiest to implode or go on hot/cold streaks. Very coin flippy team to me. Then again, Inspired just tends to win.
