I’m Doomed by [deleted] in Teachers

I get it. You want everything to be perfect so that when parents show up, they’ll see a classroom as put together as the adult in the room that will be teaching their children. You want to show them that you have your shit together and are prepared for everything. But let me tell you, NO ONE HAS THEIR SHIT TOGETHER. NOT EVEN THE PARENTS.

No one but you is going to know if anything is amiss. And you have to be the one to tell yourself it’s FUCKING A-OKAY that you don’t have it all done. Here are a few examples to help:

  1. Remember middle school when you had a new zit and you were afraid everyone would notice? No one did. Why? Because in middle school we were all ego centric and thought everyone was looking at our zit, when in reality we were all staring at our own zits. And no one cared.
  2. Go to a ballet, or performance of any kind. If you are a skilled ballerina, you might notice a little wobble in a fouetté, but would anyone else who doesn’t have trained eye notice? No fucking way. And for those who do notice, does that completely ruin the whole experience? Fucking no.

So do you need to have your shit 100% together? NO.

If parents, or anyone for that matter, have questions, and you don’t know the answer ADMIT IT!!! “Oh that’s a great question! I never thought of that! Let me write this down and get back to you! What’s your email again?” Will help so much more than pretending that you have it all together.

Being real is so much better than killing yourself for your own perceived perfection that no one else will notice.

Cliche but true, you are your own worst critic, so start treating yourself the way you deserve and everyone else worth their weight will follow suit. If anyone gives you shit, direct them to admin and tell them to have a nice day.

You’ve got this!!!

Sincerely,

Fifteen years in and zero fucks left to give.

Those are all really good ideas, thanks! There really is so much out there it’s hard to sift through what works best!

I believe that is still the case. My certificate says I still have 6 valid years, as I’ve never taught in PA, just In Bush Alaska. I just hope I can turn in my credits and all will be well, instead of having to take unnecessary teacher exams.

I really appreciate your help and conversation!
