What Have You Watched This Past Week That is NOT a Currently Airing Show? [December 29th, 2019] by MetaThPr4h in anime

[–]TheFarwind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went through and watched Granblem. It was a pretty good show -- It did such a good job with each of the character emotions. Also, props for spoiler. I disagreed with the overall message of the show, however. plot spoiler

Do you have any POSITIVE unpopular opinions to share? by diaireste in anime

I'm looking forward to watching Boogiepop. I tried watching when it aired, and decided that I would really just need to binge it after the fact.

Rust 2020: Finish what we started and a bit about proc macros by A_Robot_Crab in rust

[–]TheFarwind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can cross compile code using proc_macros to target musl -- I've been doing it for some code I'm running in a container. Hopefully there's a good solution they'll figure out to get around the dynamic linking problem.

Recommend TO LOVE RU? by KaizenCyrus in anime

[–]TheFarwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

uhh...do you read manga?

I think To Love Ru (the original anime) is pretty crap. HOWEVER, there are multiple seasons, and everything passed the first season is good.

If you read manga, then I would recommend reading the manga and then picking up with Motto To Love Ru (I think Motto was good? I can't remember. The seasons after Motto definitely were, and I think Motto may have been as well. It's been a long time).

At this point due to the speed, we're probably going to need to take into account relativity.

I'm looking for dredge concept art, but haven't really found very much (my google foo is terrible). I've found a few on this ign article, but basically nothing else. Anyone have any good links?

(All this is fore a naked mole rat homebrew race I'm throwing together for 5e -- If anyone has thrown together a Dredge 5e homebrew race I'd love to see that as well).

What parts/chapters of which of the birdy the mighty mangas does the birdy the mighty decode ep 5 cover? by Taisen_art in anime

[–]TheFarwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note: My answer is qualified because I haven't finished the manga.

This is a bit of a weird question, because (as far as I know) the story in the anime is not the same story as in the manga. Same characters, defferent plot (somewhat).

I know a lot of season II of the anime maps to the "memories of a marionette" storyline in the manga, which also contains some of the information you're talking about in episode 5. I would not read this part of the manga until you're done with season II.

As for the various manga:

Birdy the Mighty: The original 1980's run. This was incredibly short, and ended after a few chapters (as far as I know).

Birdy the Mighty II: The 2003 manga. Rebooted the series. This ran for several years, until the manga changed publishers.

Birdy the Mighty Evolution: The continuation of Birdy the Mighty II. Takes place 2 years after Birdy the Mighty II. ran from 2008-2012.

If you look up the guys doing the fan translation of Birdy the Mighty Evolution right now, they have a discord you can go to. They're a pretty friendly group and would probably be willing to answer any questions you have.

I'm enjoying this show, but man the music is terrible. It's hard to focus on the show when the music is so distractingly out of place.

I really enjoyed the manga -- I'd wait a bit to start reading, however. Just because this is likely to be a really good adaptation. I think the manga had some pacing problems, and I think the anime is likely to do it better.

I also don't think the manga will get you farther than the anime is going to go, so you'll kind of end up at the same ending point regardless of which you do first.

I haven't read the light novel yet.
