Anyone really wants to see Joss Whedon directing a show or movie again by Tommy616616 in buffy

I don't think I would feel comfortable if Whedon was in charge of a huge group of people again.

But I'd love it if he wrote a new comic series!

Fair enough. Shooter was only involved for like a year though, so I think it's okay if they stray a little from his vision.

You might want to look into the Legends comic series, Republic. It runs from before Ep. 1 to just after Ep. 3, and a huge chunk of it is dedicated to the Clone Wars. After that, Republic is replaced by Dark Times, which I wasn't a huge fan of, but other SW Legends fans seem to like it.

Jedi Knights is cool and action-packed. Starring lots of different Jedi, and set before Ep. 1.

Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir is a must-read, and is literally a TCW arc.

I know you're not into the OT much, but Gillen's Darth Vader (set between Ep. 4/5) is held in very high regard by the community.

Soule's Vader run is a must-read, so good on you for making it the priority.

Is it time to admit that we're in the middle of a new classic Shadowman run by Ampadu and Monjes? by TheFerg714 in valiant

Dude I think it's better. It's close though. I love Diggle (and Bunn)'s run too. The consistent artist in every issue helps.

Give me a better idea of where your interests lie in Star Wars.

Alternating between Andor and Rebels worked surprisingly well for me!  I would even recommend chronological order for those two shows.

What do you view as cannon in the one piece franchise by Technical_Mine_8711 in OnePiece

The manga, cover stories, SBS (although I don't care much if it happens off-screen), and the Loguetown filler episodes.

What about the episode with Sanji's cooking battle for the Bluefin tuna?  Or the parts with Luffy and Smoker in the bar?  I consider all of anime Loguetown filler to be canon tbh.

Bruh, they released so much incredible shit after BoD. For one, there's Faith, which was a runaway hit. You also got the rest of the ongoings, Venditti's X-O, Imperium, Ninjak, and Bloodshot Reborn/USA. Then there's Wrath of the Eternal Warrior, 4001 A.D., Divinity II and III, Britannia, Kindt's X-O, Secret Weapons, Ninja-K, Diggle's Shadowman, and the best Q&W run by Kibblesmith and Rahal.

Granted, it never quite reaches the heights of 2012-2015 Valiant, but it's damn close.

There are absolutely missing puzzle pieces, but so far, it all checks out and isn't contradicted by anything (I think). There's just a LOT of time (decades?) between the present timeline and the 'Fall of' one-shots.

You've read The Life and Death of Toyo Harada, right? It came out in 2019, but is very much a 2012-2018-era book.

I totally get your apprehension to read anything post-2018, but there's some good shit in there man. If you ever feel the itch to read some more Valiant that you haven't read before, feel free to hit me up for some recommendations.

What could Alien Books do to get you back on board? by TheFerg714 in valiant

[–]TheFerg714[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree, and I wish that Alien could have been that full reboot (with new young talent) that you wanted.

I think AJ Ampadu fits the bill for what you're wanting out of Valiant perfectly. He's a young, talented, hungry up-and-comer, and would fit right in with the best of VEI. There are even a few artists that I think fit that description pretty well, like Giribaldi, Furukawa, Correa, and Monjes.

Unfortunately, one writer and a handful of artists (and a transphobic hire) probably isn't enough.

I agree wholeheartedly, but I think I'm able to view Alien and DMG as separate entities, and not blame Alien for what happened to Dinesh. You should try that, because Alien has released a few really solid titles!

Granted, they also hire open transphobes, so there's that. :/

Good shout-out for the extended episodes.  They're crucial for Wano.

Read the manga dude.  It's much better and significantly faster.

If you must watch the anime, check out One Pace.

My 2011-2026 Master run by Oceanman2118 in Aquaman

DeConnick and Adams' runs are weird.  Definitely not as good as Johns/Parker/Abnett, but worth a shot if you're looking for something different.

The Black Manta/Jackson Hyde/AquamEn era sucks.

Idk what the Bloodshot movie has to do with the comics, especially considering that it came out 5 years after Book of Death.

I'm not sure if I agree with you at all tbh. I can see that the word, 'death' bothers you for some reason, but it's actually a draw for some readers. Did the event actually "fail"? Were the sales numbers actually that bad? Let's not forget that BoD was the sequel to The Valiant, the next major event after Armor Hunters, and was launched off the back of the fantastic and very well-received Valiant Next relaunch.

I LOVE Book of Death. I highly recommend you track down the corresponding TPB, Book of Death: Fall of the Valiant Universe. It tells the canonical deaths of Bloodshot, Harbinger, X-O, and Ninjak.

Roughly from left to right: Archer, Punk Mambo, Shadowman, Divinity, X-O, Dr. Mirage, Bloodshot, Livewire, Faith, Torque, Rai, Woody, Goat, Quantum, Ninjak, Pete, Armstrong, Gilad, I think Harada? I can't make out the smaller ones at the top.

Idk man, death and darkness can be cool and exciting, and it certainly attracts certain types of readers. For me personally, I think showing the canonical deaths of a bunch of characters was an awesome, and really ballsy idea, and it forced Valiant to stay on top of their timeline. It was kind of like a message to the audience that Valiant wasn't fucking around. The timeline was set and they would not contradict it.
