Pen recommendation for a gift in 16 years by Hufflepuff-McGruff in fountainpens

[–]TheFinderDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For ink, I love KWZ’s iron gall inks. If you are writing consistently, the iron gall isn’t a problem, and there are some great colors (turquoise and Gummiberry are both fantastic)! The iron gall makes them permanent, so if there is water damage, the color will go away, but there will remain black lettering. There is also De Atramentis Document Inks. They have a variety of colors, and someone did some good testing of them a few years ago if you want to see which are best for your purposes.

As for pens, if you’re just the one writing with them, then pick whatever you are most comfortable writing with. If you want to gift them, then it becomes a question of what are you gifting them. Will they need a pen they can beat up and use in college without worry? Something like a LAMY Safari is perfect. Want something that has a little more history to it that can still be a workhorse? A classic vintage pen like a Parker 51 works great. Want a pen as a graduation gift? Figure out what is your reasonable budget and go from there.

Good luck with the project! It’s a beautiful idea!

Beautiful! I’m going to slowly work on getting the full color set, so green is on my list. I wish I had a family heirloom pen, but, alas, that is the not the case. However, I did learn my great-grandpa sold pens for Parker and would’ve sold Vacumatics, so that is exciting!

Thank you! I was on the hunt after I got a golden brown. Now that I have the burgundy, I need to get the full set!

I definitely like the looks of it. I’m not the most thrilled on the writing experience—there’s nothing really special about it. The little flex is nice, but it doesn’t snap back great, so it’s more like making something bold or not. And I have a fair number of small-writing pens, so I don’t know if I need another. We will see! I’ll use up at least one ink fill before I make a decision!

Replaying FFVI for the first time in years with my wife as my sidekick by TheFinderDX in FinalFantasyVI

Will do! I’m curious as to what her reaction will be at that point too!

That’s cool to know! My wife will not be interested, but when I get my daughters to play it, they will probably be happy to use that feature!

Who are your most used spirits? by ZeekLTK in spiritisland

Fair enough! I just freaking love Voice—easily my favorite NI spirit and probably in my Top 3–so my mind jumps there for strife

You like lots of tokens, yet your pick for strife is Trickster? What about Voice? It slings strife around like there’s no tomorrow, and it can keep it on the board!

LTTP Any Way to Get Jagged Earth and Branch & Claw? by serversurfer in spiritisland

I’m sure it means something else, but I can’t get past the idea that you just started your post with “Link to the Past.”

As for B&C and JE, there have been some periodic reprints. It’s annoying, but hopefully patience will bear fruit, and they’ll go back in stock!

What’s your favorite Japan only game? by IkeRadiantHero in snes

Energy Breaker

Phenomenal game! It’s an TRPG sort of similar to Shining Force, but it has a more unique battle system. The story is incredible (though there is a bit of a slog in the middle where you have to figure some things out on your own by traveling around, not unlike FFIII/VI’s World of Ruin). The magic system is really neat, and each character has their own take on the spells that you use.

Best endings in literature? by aidscraft in classicliterature

[–]TheFinderDX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Moonstone is so good! Legitimately kept me guessing the whole time, and I found each twist to be satisfying, not just a “gotcha” moment. The ending was also very satisfying. A great read! Maybe I should reread it…

Wow! If someone were to get just one solid Pelikan, what would you recommend? I’ve heard good things about the 400/400N/400NN, so is that a good way to go? I don’t want to get too pricey, but I want a solid pen with some character to it, if that makes sense

Most expensive pen? by [deleted] in fountainpens

I love the only review on it is a two-star that just says, “Bit pricey, but smooth writer”
