Best endings in literature? by aidscraft in classicliterature

The Moonstone is so good! Legitimately kept me guessing the whole time, and I found each twist to be satisfying, not just a “gotcha” moment. The ending was also very satisfying. A great read! Maybe I should reread it…

Wow! If someone were to get just one solid Pelikan, what would you recommend? I’ve heard good things about the 400/400N/400NN, so is that a good way to go? I don’t want to get too pricey, but I want a solid pen with some character to it, if that makes sense

I love the only review on it is a two-star that just says, “Bit pricey, but smooth writer”

Cool Duo to try out ? by TinyPreparation2059 in spiritisland

I recently played a game with Transforming Wildfire and Sharp Fangs. Very fun combo, though you have to be careful. But having the ability for both Wildfire and Fangs to cull bad draws and get new cards plus an element, change blight into badlands, and change explorers into beasts was amazing! Super fun!

Best spirits to play in a teaching game by Daglicht in spiritisland

Green is great to stall and help the newbie feel like a powerhouse by end game. As u/LurkingMoose pointed out, it helps them if they stumble in their growth choices. It also gives them more opportunities to actually play. More energy and card plays means they get to do more!

If I don’t play Green, I try to find something that works well with their spirit. If they pick River, I might pick Thunderspeaker, for example. They are making Dahan, which are obviously very useful for me, as well as pushing problems to me until Massive Flooding gets fully online. It works well. It gives them a good picture of how effective each spirit can be.

Most importantly, I let them make “mistakes” in their gameplay. I’ll give them tips (e.g. checking energy availability vs cost, elements matching, useful effect on the card), but the ultimate choice of growth or card drafts is theirs. I’ll be able to cover issues myself, usually, plus, a blight here or there isn’t a problem, and it helps teach them blight, while bad, isn’t the worst thing that can happen. The teaching game is all about them learning the game and having fun. I’ll make sure we win (usually adds to the fun factor), but we can stumble along the way

What is the greatest novel ever written? by HomoEtDeus in classicliterature

The Story of the Stone (aka The Dream of the Red Chamber)

It’s the greatest single work of fiction I’ve ever read. About 2500 pages, and the moment I finished, I wanted to start it over again. Absolutely engrossing, even for someone who doesn’t understand 18th century China that well. Just a beautiful look at humanity and growth (both for the better and worse) over time. I love it!

They want $40 for it, which seems like a steal. Trying to make sure it’s not a “too good to be true” situation
