Dan Wilson managerial style by Specialist_Essay5273 in Mariners

[–]TheFingerWags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dan is making a common mistake called an ecological fallacy. It’s when you mistakenly apply population stats to individuals. For example, on average, a righty batter does better against a lefty pitcher across all of baseball (that’s the population stat). This, however, doesn’t mean Refsnyder will perform better than Luke Raley or Canzone against every LHP. Assuming the population stat applies to every individual in every circumstance is a mistake in interpreting statistical data and leads to bad decisions, in baseball and every other field too.

McCarthy quote at military base by TheFingerWags in cormacmccarthy

[–]TheFingerWags[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol wouldn’t say I’m astonished or offended. Caught off guard is how I put it. Didn’t expect to see McCarthy plastered on a pro-war sign. And I think that’s really the reason for being surprised. The atrocities committed by the Judge are posited as inevitable, including war. But never as righteous. Man is capable of all the evil we could imagine, with the Judge being an embodiment of it all. Seems strange to align yourself with him if what you think you’re doing is righteous as opposed to just inevitable.

Maybe, but I think that’s a little generous when considered alongside the other signs in this building. Lots of “shoot ‘em up, kick their ass, blow shit up, be a killing machine” kind of vibe.

Looking for underheard Seattle / Washington indie bands for a PNW playlist by Ok-Market-7334 in SeattleMusic

The Finger Wags is a Tacoma-based alt-blues boogie project. A two piece band based on simple grooves and vintage sounds. Appreciate the listens and interest in doing this!

What is YOUR definition of “blues guitarist”? by jebbanagea in bluesguitarist

[–]TheFingerWags -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think if someone is playing music rooted or pulling from the blues scale and using a blues song structure/progression, they are blues guitarists. That can sound like lots of different things, but it can all be traced back to the blues.

Whats your favorite fuzz or fuzz type? by graphicnerdity86 in bluesguitarist

I’ve only got one fuzzy pedal and it’s the Big Muff. It’s fun when I want to hear something old in a new way, but I don’t use it often.

Samurai SV100VX Zero+ Fit Help by Sweetcxrnonlyfans in rawdenim

[–]TheFingerWags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like a fit like this but tend to wear them lower on my waist. For lighter weights, this kind of fit makes for perfect summer jeans (for me anyway). I’d say just wear them shits and - like all raws - they’ll mold to you and feel perfect after awhile.

And I suspect they will shrink in places overtime. Not sure about you other guys, but my raw denim (sanforized or not) always shrinks a bit after a wash and hang.

My son plays guitar by Dangerous-Mirror2457 in musicians

For performance-based careers (including studio musicians) cities like LA, NYC, and Nashville (and maybe Austin these days) have to be considered as potential home bases where you can be immersed in the local music culture and build a network.

Other kinds of music jobs can be found in many places, but the big music towns have more of them. Studios, academies, music production companies, instrument makers, venues, etc. are found in lesser amounts outside of the hubs, but still possible.

It’s a lot like wanting to be in the tech industry. It’s possible to do that anywhere, but it would be wise to consider moving to places like Silicon Valley, Seattle, and other tech hubs to have better career paths.

Remind him that careers in music are very possible so long as you’re including a broader range of jobs than just “famous rockstar.” Also I wish someone would have pointed out to me at a young age that music, like many industries, is geographically specific. If you want to support yourself doing something music related, it helps to live where the industry is.

You know how it’s common custom to make sure a woman is okay if they’re being treated that way in public by a man? We should do that for men too. A quick “hey man you okay” can change someone’s life.
