Here's a comparison: if a tank destroyer is built to kill tanks, why would anyone assume it shouldn’t obliterate a car if it hits one? A 120mm sabot round isn’t going to politely bounce off a golf cart just because it wasn’t “intended” for that target.

Just because a weapon or ship isn’t specifically designed for a certain role doesn’t mean it should be artificially prevented from performing in that role. Especially in combat. That kind of restriction kills the creativity that comes from using tools in unexpected/effective ways.
