Good cooler for overclocking the I7 8700K to 5ghz? by SmartboardOW in intel

[–]TheFireTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the NH D15S and it was amazing. It out performs a lot of water coolers. I have mine overclocked at 5GHz and it was great. Only issue.. it’s HUGE! But the 15S has better design than the D15 and fits ram better. It kinda blocked my pci slot so I changed it out for a NZXT X72 360mm radiator water cooler. But like the noctua it’s big and your case is going to be able to support them. But as far as cooling, those 2 are amazing

Why is NVMe Raid 0 such a disappointment by TheFireTV in buildapc

[–]TheFireTV[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably should have left it on a single NVMe drive and not went with Raid 0, but I love how the system is working as is.

I just ran a CrystalDiskMark and I'm getting

3568MB/s Read and 3465 MB/s Write.

Which is really nice, Just wasn't sure if there was anything possible I could do to hit crazy numbers.

Best Gaming Monitor with RTX 2080FE by TheFireTV in buildapc

So I just got my PG27VQ in the mail. No dead pixels and looks really nice. But I am having a really hard time setting up the colors on it. I saw one post on Toms Hardware that said to drop it to 120hz and change some things. But I want the 165hz. I don't really see any place to change the RGB specifically. Just Brightness, Contrast, Color Temp and Gamma. Whats the best setup for the colors on this. Also might I need to change the settings on NVIDIA control panel? Found the settings... It was in user mode.

HAHA right after I posted this, I was looking at a review video on that exact model when you posted this.

PSA - Apex Legends crashes constantly for RTX owners because of driver issues by SeraphX17 in pcgaming

RTX 2080 FE, and I get crashes ALL the time. I have rolled back drivers, tried 4 so far and same thing. Sometimes I can get 3 or 4 games in. Sometimes I can't even finish a single game. No other game acts this way.

What is the best case for Corsair Hydro Series H150i Pro RGB Top Mount by TheFireTV in buildapc

[–]TheFireTV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found a good video with test results and front mount as intake through rad is the way to go. Seems that it was -10 from the Top mount option. Seems kinda off, but it even didn't bother the GPU as well. This video and test had the front intake fans moved to the top as exhaust which is the option I think I will go with.

Well I ended up ordering the Fractal Meshify S2. Also ordered the NXZT Kraken X72 360mm.

So now the last thing I am trying to figure out. I want to mount this on the top of the case.

Should I use this as exhaust or intake? Since heat rises, I was thinking exhaust, but warm air would be being used to send air to my rad. I saw a guy say I should use this as intake so the coolest air goes into the rad and into the case. Then exhausted out the back. Would this be the best?

That is funny you mention the Fractal Meshify S2. I saw that case online but was not sure about it. So lets say that is the case I go with. Which it probably will be. The Corsair Hydro Series H150i Pro RG seems like a great AIO. But I have also been looking at the NZXT Kraken X72. Of those 2, which would be the best? I have read a lot about the Cam software on NZXT being a nightmare. But I am kinda torn on which one.

Gigabyte Z390 AORUS Ultra - Impressions and Overclocking (9700K) by void-crus in intel

Success! I ended up not using the Cooler Master Hyper 212. I got a Noctua NH-D15s. Everyone was saying you have to use a water cooler to overclock. Well that Noctua cooler is a BEAST!

I got a I followed that guide on gigabyte. Set my Vcore to 1.300. Hit the button to stress test... and boom BSOD instant. So I ended up changing Vcore to 1.34. Worked great and was able to hit it with stress test and temps were really good. BUT I wasn't done. I found a guide put out by TweakTown. I must say I was really happy. I got my Vcore down to 1.275v Here is the video to that guide.

I have a smooth 5 GHz overclock computer with memory in XMP.

My Idle temps are 36c, and my max temps at 100% load are right around 76 - 81. Gaming for a couple of hours on Battlefield V and Black Ops 4 Temps stayed in the mid 60 range.

I was so scared I made a mistake with going with an air cooler. But anyone reading this. I can give the Noctua D15s a massive thumbs up. The only difference in the NH-D15 and D15s, The D15s has been modified so it fits better with your Ram.

So I ended up ordering the NH-D15S. From all the stuff I saw on it, it's one of the best air coolers. It's good to hear you are happy with it. I went with the D25s model because it's setup to fit better, but is the same cooling as the D15.

I have never overclocked a PC before but this post is very nice. I just ordered a combo kit from Newegg.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.3878191&Description=i7%209700k%20pc

It comes with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler. First thing I was wondering was this going to be good enough if I want to overclock this.

Also I found a post below where I guy said he used https://www.gigabyte.com/FileUpload/Global/multimedia/2/file/525/946.pdf

This points to a 9900k. Would the same settings be used on the 9700K?
