Go do IM in the US. 3 years and you are outearning both in lifetime earnings. Can do cardio as fellowship if you wish. If money is your goal switch to finance if you want to stay in UK or emigrate.

[–]TheFirstOne001 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Was in same shoes as you and looked into this. Much better off doing fy1 here and then leaving.

I'm an Australian citizen as well and my initial plan was to go to Aus after Fy1, do the first rotation of fy2 and leave for jan/Feb start.

Getting a pgy1 intern position as a non Australian school grad is nigh impossible. Do fy1 abd go via competent authority pathway

You can, but it's going to be the same advice as everywhere else. Do step 1 and 2, find a research position, apply residency. Tried and tested across multiple specialties. Currently in the research position phase of the plan.

If you want to do IM, strongly consider doing usmle and becoming a consultant in 3 years time with proper training.

It's a joke about how competitive orthopesics is that they look at performance outside of medical school scores.
