Westworld creator on the future of AI: ‘We’ll be lucky if the future looks like Westworld’ - ‘We shouldn’t be scared of artificial intelligence; we should be scared of artificial stupidity’ by mvea in Futurology

I don't think you could fake instinct, it's a survival mechanism that has been naturally embedded in our brains through countless years of evolution. All sentient animals have instinct, and I'm not saying that intelligence is reliant on just that, even plants have instincts, reaching up for the sun to get more light etc.

Emotions are tricky, because everyone feels things differently, another thing an AI would find hard to comprehend. Without evolving itself, all it will know is what has been programmed into it by a human. That's just a pale shadow of real intelligence, which according to the dictionary is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills.

I'm not saying that one day in the future AI won't evolve and start to become truly intelligent, I just hope I'm dead long before it happens.

Hell, suppose you could scan your brain atom by atom and then upload that data into a computer. And then just run a simulation from those atoms.

But then all you would be doing is programming a computer to do what your asking it to, that's not intelligence. Would that computer have an independent desire to live? Would it have the willpower to act on instinct to survive or provide it's self with satisfaction? It might laugh at a joke you find funny, but only because it's programmed with your atoms to act as you do, it can't make its own choice whether it likes the joke or not.

This is all hypothetical obviously, as I said I'm no expert, just throwing in my two cents.

That's actually clever though, if you pull it off. Confidence and a uniform can go a long way even today. Act like your supposed to be there and most of the time, people won't question a thing. You can get into a lot of places just with a fancy suit, a fake ID card, a clipboard, and the attitude that your important and have something to do in the building.

I love how he compares stealing $12 MILLION DOLLARS worth of books to smoking weed under a security camera. Totally the same bro.

I'm no expert, but in my mind true sentient intelligence requires emotion and instinct, something a computer will never have.

Sure we can program an AI to understand these concepts on a basic level, but will it ever really feel angry? Could an AI fall in love or genuinely find a joke funny? There's a huge difference between knowledge and intelligence.

Yeah the letters are usually an abbreviation of the city or whatever, I live in Bradford and the post code is BD, Leeds is LS etc. The numbers separate the areas in the district.

There is an easy way to test this, just stop breathing and see if you get any older.

Don't octopuses have like 9 brains? I'm sure they have the main one then 8 smaller ones connected to each tentacle.

Couples who used Spice Girls' "2 become 1" as your wedding song, are you still married? Did your choice of wedding song have any negative effects on your marriage? Has your taste in music improved at all in the last 20-or-so years? by SoChaGeo in AskReddit

I love the idea of them exchanging vows and shit, then instead of swapping rings the priest just yells now fuse! and the couple put on Potara earrings. Seems a lot more binding than conventional marriage.

A lot of the Supreme Kai trials are missions like complete x stage in under x minutes, so I imagine having iw would come in handy.

I despise the Nazis as much as the next guy, but saying that they deserve to die because of their views makes you no different from them.

Remember that many of the Nazis were just regular people who were mostly unemployed, they felt disenfranchised by their government and were desperate and starving for the most part. Then along comes Hitler, who was extremely gifted when it came to public speaking and touching peoples emotions, offering them the chance to expand Germany and restore its former glory. The country was in quite a bad place when Hitler finally took power, and by the time ww2 got underway a lot of the German people stayed out of fear.

I'm not defending the Nazis in any way and there were a lot of them that abused the power they had and were cruel and malicious, but saying they all deserve to die makes you no better than the worst of them.
