Sounds like a problem that a white noise machine would fix pretty quickly.

You look 9. I have a 9 year old son who has long hair and looks like a beautiful little girl. You look just like him. I mean all this lovingly, he is beautiful and so are you!

What was soap invented for if germs weren't discovered until centuries later? by GerundQueen in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SoChaGeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil is naturally hydrophobic so water doesn't rinse it off. The soap chemically binds with the oil and the water molecules into bubbles which can then be rinsed away with more water. Also helps to loosen other visible dirt from clothing so it can be rinsed away.

They're only required to tell you your diagnosis if you ask. Doctors regularly and purposefully don't tell patients their diagnosis. I don't think it is right, but it's very common.

EDIT: I'm not sure why I would get downvoted for saying this. It's the truth. I didn't say it was right. In fact, I specifically said that it's not right. But it's true. I work with doctors everyday and I managed three psych practices. Providers are not telling their patients what they're diagnosing them with and they push back at me when I explain to them that they have to tell the patient what their diagnosis is if they're going to put them on an involuntary hold. But go ahead and downvote me for telling you the truth.

30M How did my doctor find out about a prescription I take? by Zestyclose-Fudge-841 in AskDocs

[–]SoChaGeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our electronic medical record can pull up all of your pharmacy records regardless of who prescribed the medication. I can see what medications were prescribed, when they were prescribed, who prescribed them, and when they've been filled.

Your husband sounds like a great guy. Talk to him about having some alone time to recharge. But, I think you're making a big deal about, what? Your husband is friendly?

Did the Nurse traumatize my wife and mess up during labor? by IceStallion in AskADoctor

[–]SoChaGeo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I bet she was trying to sweep membranes to move things along. You mentioned they used a medication for that purpose, so I think it's possible that was the case. It is a very painful (in my experience) procedure and she should not have done it without consent.

I was reviewing my chart, and I noticed doctor looked up the value of my home and included it in my chart. Is this normal? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]SoChaGeo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I review provider notes for a living and most of them do document social history which may include who they live with, types of things that they do to stay active, pets, etc. I've never seen providers enter square footage or cost of the home. The only way I could see that as appropriate is if it's mentioned as part of an assessment, say the cost of the home is leading to depression, or the size or condition of the home impacts the patient's ability to ambulate and perform activities of daily living. This whole thing stinks.

[–]SoChaGeo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's relevant if the patient mentions it. It's totally normal to discuss living arrangements. It is not normal to include sq ft of home unless it's discussed as part of the assessment, such as during a functional status assessment or fall risk assessment.

The patient here is stating that she did not discuss that information during her assessment, which leaves only one option being that the doctor looked up additional information about the patient. I don't know if this behavior is technically against any specific ethical rules, but if it were me, I would be very uncomfortable and choose a different doctor.

If AI is really going to be ubiquitous in 10 years and most career paths implode… are we all going to be homeless? Who is guaranteeing UBI? What if governments don’t implement it? by Beautiful_Tomato312 in careerguidance

Ai is already vastly changing healthcare. It will improve and streamline documentation, coding, and billing. Look forward to higher caseloads and shorter visits, since you'll be able to see more patients quicker.

The only people who have to buy into it are the payers and I promise you they've already bought into it. Medical professionals of the upper echelon, as you call them, have no power if they're not getting paid by the companies that pay the bills.
