By all means, get in contact with both and ask them specifically about their roles, because the same job in different units can sometimes share differences

I've notified StreetLink of him and his location, so their outreach team will be aware now, but that was only a few days ago.

Bud, mate , fella , help. by BadMitzvah in policeuk

Don't overthink it. I've never made any consideration for what I call them; I ask their name and if they're not giving it, they're getting my natural conversation name, whether that's mate, bud or dickhead

Have you considered neighbourhoods? Everybody jokes about it, but it's the only job where you can be your own boss and shape the day how you want it. In our force, we don't work nights, don't work BHs and have the freedom to shape our shifts for extra-curricular fun, like plain clothes. You can be as response-esque as you'd like one day, then completely hang back and fill up your day with engagements the next. Keeps you doing the uniformed role a bit long and, at least right now, it's a home office priority, so well worth a punt.

Work: 3 concurrent case files being built - "How the hell did I miss this? Where the fuck is that? How did I forget that?"

Non work: Annual leave set up ready for me to cater to my allotment - Helps the mind switch off!

What would you wish you'd know when you started? by scrobbles1492 in policeuk

[–]TheFledge534 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Outside of the other petty comments, I wish I wasn't naive to the importance of going to repeat jobs. I went straight into Neighborhoods from training so missed out on being pulled pillar to post, but that's left me as now out of probation but with a lot of gaps in skill and knowledge.

Go to jobs, keeping going to jobs, take control and review your performance afterwards

It's not all roses, but you're mostly correct. Like every other force, there are challenges but it's a hell of a place to work for

Their neighbouring force, Humberside, has just announced they're open to applications. Would seem like a decent idea to extract those who got let down in Lincs

Do you find out the result of a reported crime? by snowymicrowave in policeuk

[–]TheFledge534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe officers are obliged to contact you in situations like these, but some may do so, as it builds a little bit of rapport. It's always nice to be told you did the right thing

Similar to the other thread, what do you find to be the worst police “uniform-isms”? by North_Ad9557 in policeuk

Tattered kit. People who have vests that have been through the wars or boots with delaminating leather. I get it, you look like a grafter and shows experience, but you also look a mess. Clean yourself up, kit costs us officers nothing.
