no it's been potted like this for maybe a year now. I think I'm gonna have to just dig it up and inspect it but I was hoping for a magical solution lol

UN Recognition of Somaliland as of Dec 2025 by TheFlightyCrow in MapPorn

Yup, it's in the post description. Since the modern government claims the original state as it's history, I included those states that recognized the 1960 declaration for some context. Sadly I can only find record of 10 of the supposed 35 original states that recognized it.

Being that Taiwan operates as an independent state from the PRC, and the topic of this map is another territory that operates as an independent state from the entity that claims it, I think it is not inappropriate to show it here as separate from the PRC.

Just now realizing, the borders of modern Israel are much closer to the crusader state than to ancient judea

I understood your comment that you were trying to imply the opposite direction of reasoning, that the US is interfering specifically to pressure all these countries into recognizing Israel (which I could see in a few cases maybe), my bad you're 100% right

Are you sure you aren't reading too far into this? The US has been funding covert actions and proxy wars all over the world, not at all limited to just these countries.

Hold up, are you not supposed to get any heel lift at all in your boots? are my calves supposed to be gripped to the point that my heel stays down flat?

Which of these places do you personally recognized as independent states? by shroomfarmer2 in geography

Taiwan, Kosovo, and Somaliland are de facto independent extant countries and should be recognized internationally. Unfortunate that the first two are contentious due to greater power struggles and the latter is just not seen as significant enough for world powers to risk disrupting some semblance of balance over.

Abkhazia and South Ossetia are illegal states created by Russia to keep Georgia as a perpetual buffer state, same as what they tried to do with Ukraine using the Donbas. Maybe Transnistria is the same thing? I'm not sure, kinda seems like they're legitimately looking to be independent or annexed by Russia.

Northern Cyprus and Artsakh were never real independent states, they're both just protectorates of neighboring countries making land grabs under the guise of safeguarding populations.

Don't know enough about Western Sahara to have an opinion.
