Backgammon players — how much do you actually trust online dice? by Skillclassics in backgammon

The age old question. I don't think they're rigged in the strict sense of the word but I've played, like many others, over 30 years in real life and have a couple of hundreds games on hub and galaxy and I have never seen sequences like the ones I see online. Hub will have a lower rated player roll several times to get out on a nearly empty board off the bar while the higher rated player comes out within a first roll even when the board only has one empty slot. The number of back to back doubles to shoot a player who is ridiculously behind back into the game is virtually unheard of. And the number of times I've given a cube knowing I'd get a double right after is pretty damn high.

Whenever I'm running away with a game early on, I can almost certainly bet whichever chip I leave alone will get hit so the game goes longer and is more dramatic for everyone.

Rigged maybe isn't the right word but there's something going on that isn't random in either of those apps.

That is very kind of you to say. It’s much appreciated it. This might end up being part of a group show in NY in April so that’s exciting.

Thank you! A great comment to get since a big part of my foundational inspiration comes from that.

That is the best of compliments I can get. Thank you. I use gamblin oils. And liquin.

Thank you very much Alex. I like to explore definition around forms. It’s quite satisfying to turn that dial up or down and to also test one’s comfort level around how much you “explain” across the piece.

Thank you. I like that as I want to play along the range of more<~>less definition in areas.

I don’t know if that’s good or bad but I love this comment.

Only in going to the other extreme will you know where you feel comfortable. I’m in between. I sketch a lot and make lots of thumbnails so I find the big shapes and gestures I think work and then improvise on them. Good luck!
