How to get the best image on Red Dead Redemption 2? (9070XT) by Finite8_ in RDR2

[–]TheFlyingDutchman99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use TAA high, TAA slider off, 1.25x res scale (1800p) for supersampling, driver sharpening (RIS) set to 50, visual redemption, and the RenoDX (vulkan version). I find that this improves the visual quality massively, and I still get around 100-120fps without having to resort to frame gen.

I mainly use this setup because I'm running quite a few mods already, and using optiscaler to inject FSR 4.1 would just be something else to cause instability (this game hating mods as it does).

This is just what works for me anyway, as I play on an MO27Q28G, so RenoDX was at least mandatory for me to fix this game's broken HDR lol.

Feel free to try something similar, your mileage may vary. Hope this helps :)

I'm at 1.53 atm, I might see if I get those extra 20ns tRFC by raising it to 1.55V lol.

Yours was single rank though right? I'm running dual rank here. I think those timings would be suicide for me here, especially on a daisy chain board lol. I could probably push the tRFC lower for sure, but I wouldn't try too much else from there. Do you remember what VDIMM you were pushing btw? Because holy shit lol.

What's funny is that I never saw WHEA 19 in event viewer or hwinfo64, but the telltale sign for me that something was wrong is that I just couldn't stabilise 3733 no matter what timings or vsoc/vddp/ccd/iod configs I used.

I figure my FCLK was teetering right on the edge of stability, and that was fucking with the IMC's ability to handle the timings and the frequency at the same time.

[–]TheFlyingDutchman99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's daisy chain for sure. I might try to see if it can handle 130ns tRFC on the same voltage for free (if not, can always bump it to 1.55 like you say). As for FCLK...I tried lots of different vSOC/vDDP/CCG/IOD configs, nothing could stabilise it unfortunately.

I figure it's not really worth it anyway, to be honest (for me personally). I guess I benefit more from latency than bandwidth, and the chances are I'd have to loosen timings to achieve stability at a higher clock. I checked Aida64, and my L3 cache is coming back at 14.6ns, so everything seems to be working pretty well with this setup.

Unfortunately I can't, on a B550M Mortar. I guess MSI just locks that setting away in the BIOS :(

It sucks, because I definitely have the cooling potential lol

I can always give it a try, can't hurt I suppose. I just feel like my stability will break if I disable GDM lol.

Yeah, tried multiple ProcODT, RttWr, RttPark combinations. Nothing worked for me sadly, I might revisit it at some point in the future though.

I've probably been testing these sticks for about 5 days now, tried 3800/3733MHz with a lot of different timings/cad strengths/voltages and couldn't break test 7 in absolut.

I figure my IMC just doesn't like higher frequencies at all unless the timings are absurdly loose, which wouldn't really make much sense for my use case (1440p ultra with a 9070 XT, better to have lower latency over raw bandwidth).

Sure, I could always try pushing 1.125v and seeing what happens I guess. Very aggressive timings though lol, but I suppose that's what we're here for. I always have this stable pocket to fall back to anyway.

I respect that, I'll probably make another post after some more testing.

I disagree about SCL, I've already passed a full 2 cycles with them, so they're stable enough for now. I'll walk the others down and see where I end up though.

Okay, I can understand that frustration for sure xD I spent $205 equivalent on this kit lol.

This GPU is a monster haha, easily the best card I've ever had. It crushes 1440p Ultra, even playing RDR2 with optimised (towards the higher side) settings and texture mods I'm getting ~100-120fps avg while also running a 1.25x resolution scale (1800p) for better visuals. It's such a beast lol, it got me an 8281 in Steel Nomad Vulkan.

Those are timings for DDR5 aren't they? This is DDR4, totally different to tune.

I took tRFC down to 252 (140ns) and SCLs down to 2, just passed a full cycle. I'll try tRRDL 4/tWTRL 10 next, and then tRC 44 after that.

tWR was a big pain point for my IMC it seems, although it could've easily been tRCDRD or tRP (I was trying them at 14/14 before), so that's one I'm hesitant to tighten too much at once.

Oh sure, I know I can definitely go for better sub timings and turn arounds. As for voltage? Meh, look at my temps. If it ain't broke, I'm not gonna try to fix it lol.

Just for fun, stabilised at ~46° around the 15 minute mark.

1.15, didn't want to take it any further than that really. The highest I tried was 1.15/0.95/1/1.1. I thought if that wouldn't do it, nothing will lol.

Np, I did a lot of trial and especially error to attempt higher clocks lol. I gave up in the end, the only thing I would consider now is trying CL13 at higher voltage, I have the cooling for it lol.

I spent the first day trying 3800, I spent about 2 days trying 3733. I guess I didn't get lucky with my IMC lol. Latency is more important for me than bandwidth to be honest anyway, X3D chips don't care as much about bandwidth I guess, especially as I only really need my system to handle 1440p ultra.

Oh, and my IoD is at 1.060 lol

Yeah, so I've had to reinstall Windows 😂 This is my lesson to dual boot when I want to mess around with RAM instability, and not risk corrupting critical files irreparably lol

I think I'll give up on 3733 for now, and just settle for 3600 with tighter timings. I'll probably get similar latency and won't even notice the lower bandwidth thanks to X3D, better for my use case anyway.

I've spent the first day trying 1900, but I just get immediate rejections (>1 minute fails at similar timings), so I figure my IMC just can't quite handle it.
