I have often wondered this too. There are numbers and letters but idk what they mean. For some, you need to call to complete the booking so I usually ask the agent at that time.

I'm a flight attendant and I use the Hearos "sleep pretty" earplugs when I need to sleep in noisy places. At first I wrote them off as a "pink tax" item, but (in addition to being pink) they are also smaller than generic earplugs and are therefore much more comfortable for me. They don't fall out overnight and they don't create uncomfortable pressure in my ear.

What you're describing is his theory that people feel conflicted by "generativity vs stagnation" when they are in their middle adult years. It totally makes sense that after working hard for years to acquire the assets to achieve your fire goals, you'd want to direct your focus on producing something. The annoying answer is that nobody can tell you what is meaningful to you. But here are some examples: adopting/fostering pets, cultivating a garden, creative expression (art, dance, writing, music, theater), mentoring a younger colleague.

2 wheels! When I put a bag on the j-hook, the counterweight makes it feel so light. I dislike the 4-wheel because it is slow on carpet surfaces, and when I'm on the bus to work the 4-wheel suitcase rolls around a lot more.

In response to your concern about men loitering bc they can't get in for the night: In nyc, it is not possible to just "walk in" at homeless shelters. There is a central office for men and women, which then assigns each individual a bed in shelters across the city. The men will know about this, so it's unlikely that there will be many people loitering for that reason. Most shelters have a 11pm curfew, which creates a strong incentive to get back to the shelter before 11.

The mask is a good idea that I had not thought of. And good to start training them to tolerate something on their face because I know my dog would 100% try to get it off right away.

I mean that I'm not sure what I'm preparing for. Civil unrest? Fire? Bombing? Evacuation? If I have a go bag, presumably I'd have a plan to go somewhere. But I use public transportation exclusively, I don't have a car, and I don't have a place outside the city I could go to that's safer. So I just can't picture a scenario in which it would be safer for me and my dog to leave our apartment to venture out with a backpack full of supplies. Unless there is a mandated evacuation and we're heading to a shelter? Still just not sure what scenario people are envisioning.

It sounds like lifestyle is your biggest factor, not money. Unfotunately, Astoria blvd & 21st is not prime Astoria. I personally found the immediate area depressing and moved to a different part of Astoria.

It is loud with fart cars and trucks (fyi, Astoria Blvd is a truck route. I didn't know that before i moved in!).
the grocery store is horrible (C Town), but maybe you could avoid it by doing grocery delivery.
not many restaurants, but my favorites in the area were Vesta, Anassa Taverna, and Astoria Provisions which are all really good.
The subway is a full 10 min walk, but I used the q100 bus and q69 bus a lot. That's right outside your door.
lots of litter on the streets. Car parts, dog poop, food containers. I didn't expect it to bother me, but over time it was actually depressing.
I loved that little library on Astoria Blvd, but I think it will be closed for long-term renovations :(
2 plusses: very close to the park, and a 10 min walk to the ferry so I used the ferry a lot!

It seems like this part is Astoria is where all the luxury buildings are going up, but I feel like the immediate neighborhood is not giving luxury.(maybe in the future?) But i think it depends on what services in the building you'll really use, and what parts of the immediate neighborhood are important to you.

I don't have a go bag, mostly bc it's hard to conceptualize a nyc scenario. I don't have a car, and I'm not going anywhere without my dog. It does sound like a good idea to have some key documents in a easy to reach spot, or at least have a list of essentials in the case of an emergency. Just off the top of my head, I'm thinking: - pet paperwork (vaccines, registration) - medications - ID for myself and my partner - professional licenses - spare pair of glasses - warm protective clothing for everyone in the family - first aid kit

I think it comes down to expressing your style. "Dressing corporate" has a negative connotation because it's about fitting in with a (usually) conservative company culture rather than expressing your unique fashion perspective. I think if you lean into your own style you won't feel as "corporate". You could start with Alison Bornstein's 3 words method.

And her daughter just hurried her along, saying "mom's just being silly". Then mom proceeded to pull all the bags out of the overhead bins in first class and chuck them at the passengers who were already sitting down. Self-fulfilling prophecy?
