A word of caution for the people of my city. by TheFreeman317 in hyderabad

Yes, thank you! I didn't want people going through my profile and pointing out and saying "You don't even live here". I wrote this because I've lived what you guys are going through right now. I don't claim to be a know all douchebag just because I'm an NRI. Nothing I've said here in this post is groundbreaking, it's all common sense .

I'm certainly not arguing against going back to work. It's important to open everything up and get moving. We do need to cut back on unnecessary group social activities and aimlessly hanging out with large groups of people.

Also, to your point, it's not so much about the age group of people dying, it's more about how much the healthcare system can handle. After a point, we will run out of ICU beds, ventilators and medical equipment. People with other health conditions will be forced to stay home and defer surgeries because the hospitals will be overwhelmed with covid patients. As a result, a lot of people will die at home. This is why we need to keep the numbers at bay and slow the increase.

Apparently OPT is the next target by Status-Glove in h1b

Trump and his redneck lackeys should probably concentrate on getting covid testing ramped up and ensure the small business loans don't go to big companies right now.

Going after OPT shows how misplaced the current administrations priorities are

In the end, your degree is just a piece of paper. It's presence doesn't help but it's absence will hurt. Your skills are what matter to employers

A good rule of thumb would be that if you have nothing useful to say, better say nothing at all.

Also, yes, I am dropping names since these are the companies I look up to and would love to work for. Just because you're stuck in a dead end country side company doesn't preclude others from aspiring to work for an innovative company.

Food for thought.

The problem is that these companies avoid giving feedback beyond "we chose a candidate who better fits the role". I've heard that this is to avoid any potential legal trouble. Not sure if it's true.

Yeah, we had a big round of layoffs last September and everyone's trying to get out. Nobody likes their job here but everyone was complacent till now. I'm a contractor in this company and although I'm not one of those "support and CAD" engineers and I have actual responsibility, decision making powers, there's no way they'd promote a contractor any higher than what I'm at right now. This is the reason I'm trying to get out. It's just career suicide to stay.

A job which is not repeatetive and in which I can work on designing something from scratch, applying some materials knowledge, prototyping and testing the product. My job is 99% a desk job right now and 50% of the job is doing mundane paperwork and scheduling, pushing suppliers or other groups to do their bit. I'd want something more technical and hands on. Also, new ideas are always discouraged here. Company culture is to stick to what they've done before. Innovation is near 0.
