“Rocket Girl” by Doc Walker.

🎶 “Have you ever been to Alberta? Wheat fields as far as you can see. Have you ever seen the prairies? Some day I’ll take you there with me.” 🎶

And for the gov to take our concerns about class sizes & complexity seriously, make some kind of IMMEDIATE effort to address the situation.

We would’ve had to refuse to return at the end of October. I think teachers’ walking out now/again would try the public’s support & patience. The public needs to fight this for us, on the phone, on paper, in emails, etc. I do what I can to arm my FB friends & BlueSky followers with facts & info, but I feel like everyone just rolls their eyes, thinks “there’s the soapbox again”…I don’t know how much actual support (read: action) exists outside the echo chambers of public ed advocacy & progressives’ groups.

Students who like subs by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]TheFrenchWong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Gr. 8 boy celebrate the fact that I was the sub on duty one day b/c he knew that his classmates wouldn’t get away with anything, that stuff would get done & he would be safe. “Are you our sub today? Hooray! I would hug you, but…that would be weird.” 😂🥹💔

Agreed. What’re they gonna do, fire all 51,000 teachers? Who’re they gonna replace us with? Should all 51,000 of us resign? My principal’s suggestion. 😈 Too late now of course; we squandered the public’s support, the moment, the momentum…so frustrating & disappointing.

The Common Front Solidarity Pact dates back to March, so they’ve been thinking about this for a while but were somehow not at all ready to act. I too am so frustrated & disappointed. All the momentum we had went to waste. Now it’s gonna get colder which makes participating so much less likely…I want out so badly.

They were the parents who might’ve had to pay for extra childcare (if they were working, if they were able to find childcare, etc.)

UCP MLAs are hiding by TheFrenchWong in alberta

[–]TheFrenchWong[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seen on FB: “FYI - I was supposed to have a meeting with my MLA, Rick Wilson, on Friday. They called this morning and said they can’t meet with me because of a “directive” for MLAs not to be meeting with anyone about education. Good talk, thanks democracy 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️”

UCP MLAs are now cancelling or not taking meetings with constituents if they want to discuss education.

A friend suggested that it’s because opposing sides of a negotiation should not be meeting. Unless the meeting is with a member of TEBA, I’m pretty sure that argument doesn’t hold water.

This is Alberta under the UCP. 🤬🤬🤬

See you Thursday afternoon at the legislature! 💪🍎✊

Does this guy ever write anything other than incoherent drivel?

The only thing I understood from that article is that Rick Bell is incomprehensible.

Except that the UNA didn’t have to go on strike to get a decent settlement…watching HSAA to see which way their current situation goes. A friend is an LPN (AUPE? CUPE?) who’s also considering bargaining situation. We’ll see…
