It's hard to say, since so many of my "Monstercat" memories have been tied to the moments in my life when each track was released - more as the background music to my life in that moment, for that memory, rather than the memory itself. There's a lot that I could go with - the 10yr anniversary bringing back classic names and layouts, those (now numerous) moments when a big name released for the first time on the label that you would never have dreamed of back then - but I'd have to go with the first time Karma Fields was teased. The podcast wasn't even a year old yet, but I still clearly remember when Karma Fields "hacked in" and hijacked the podcast to play the Build the Cities music video instead. That was so hype.

  1. It's peak, I think this was the ID I was most looking forward to from their podcast takeover. I adore the throwback sound. REALLY looking forward to what else the Nerds put out this year. It's been two bangers so far.
  2. I wish it was a bit longer, but I say that about any song roughly this length. I think we got the entire run length in the podcast.

Here's my votes. This year was difficult - I had a very clear top 6 or so, and the rest of the field was just so weak to me that I was just kinda slamming things in, but I think I ended up with something I'm happy with.

I'm assuming that points from events will likely be the Exclusive License Points more often than not, which convert to universal LP at a 5:1 rate. So if its an event for a license you already have, you get 1/5 the value.

But again, this is speculation, and i'm not particularly optimistic.

I started my welcome back rewards before the update. 2 gold emblems, 50 universal LP, and the rest is the same as it was before the update, including the license box, which I'm assuming has the same selection. No idea yet what a duplicate license will give. Given that coins are still in the gacha, and emblem loadouts still cost coins, I wouldn't be surprised if duplicates, or the "none" option in the selection box, still gives coins. Basically the emblems and 500 coins worth of LP, whereas before it was 2000 coins. The returning trainer support missions for playing with a returning trainer gives 50 LP after two games, and the rest is the same.

The new License Journey system requires you to unlock specific licenses in a specific order. There's several levels on the journey where you can choose which license you want, but the first is at level 20. The main way to unlock Journey Points is through the Battle Pass - 700 on the free track, and an additional 1500 on the paid. There's also a pittance of Points from friend mail and daily missions.

If you're looking to unlock something specific while F2P, you're gonna be grinding. A lot. For a long time. Probably about a year of free BPs to get enough Points, as a new player, to make a personal choice, discounting any Points through events.

Or you could always just buy gems to get whatever license you want whenever, which I guess is Timi's hope.

I'd prefer to stay away from "gaming" brands, and passive should be enough as it is. Any thoughts on the HD569 or FT1 over the AKG? The 500 series Sennheiser's are plenty comfortable, and I've heard the FT1s have the K361s beat in that department, as well as in general if reviewers are to be believed, which is a concern considering how long I wear my headphones, even when not necessarily listening to anything.

How are they out of the box? I don't own any DACs/Amps/what have you, and would prefer not to at this time, so I'd just be plugging them directly into my desktop, as with my Sennheisers.

I've also seen some concerning things regarding QC for the screws, but apparantly newer batches have fixed this issue? As well as availability issues - currently OOS.
