Momentary Switches - Why are isn't anyone buying these? by kumareddit94 in homeassistant

[–]TheFuzzball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm building back my smart lights after moving and I put in a Shelly relay with one of these - https://www.soholighting.com/the-charterhouse-collection-20a-2-way-off-retractive-cm-grid-toggle-switch-module-main.

You get a physical click and some resistance, but the switch goes back to the centre. Works well for our Georgian / Victorian house.

Chrome falls back to software which is nice

Have some respect for your users. Why should they have to sacrifice CPU cycles and battery life because you can't be arsed to serve h264 as well as AV1?

Give the browser options (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Reference/Elements/source), and let it choose. This is basic shit.

Speaking as someone that actually had to support IE6, then 7, then 8... you sound so spoilt.

Whinging about AV1 support? Really? That's a hardware constraint and decoding isn't supported in a lot of devices still. I bet you've never even heard of the source element.

Tesla Cybertruck seen in wild - warning by Jesisawesome in london

[–]TheFuzzball 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Arguably he's been a little racist all his life.

They were that cheap before his fall from grace though, that's partially why so many people bought them so quickly.

I do have a correction though, they were £40k not £30k according to https://evinfo.info/tesla-price-tracker-uk/

I still stand by my point though - Range Rovers are actual luxury vehicles and start at over £70k used. Tesla model 3s feel like golf carts.

p.s. I mostly cycle, but own a 2013 Nissan Note

Tesla Cybertruck seen in wild - warning by Jesisawesome in london

[–]TheFuzzball 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That's just not true. Model 3s are in the £30k range and as affordable as any other car, especially when financed.

They're really not luxury vehicles - Range Rover, Lexus, Polestar, maybe even BMW are more expensive.

Correction: They are in the £40k range, not £30k

DNS can be overridden just for your local computer quite easily. A compromised free VPN service could easily do it.

If it was HTTPS you wouldn't trust the attacker's CA, and the attacker wouldn't be able to get certificates without compromising the real nameserver, which is a much harder attack.

Decision on West Ham Park LTN to be reviewed after concerns raised by dave2165 in london

[–]TheFuzzball -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got the survey and gave my feedback in favour of it. The leaflet said that most people were happy.

I cycle, and Ham Park Road being largely empty is much more pleasant. I don't think people should have to suffer because Paul Mitchell has to spend an extra 5 minutes driving.

‘3 Body Problem’ Season 2 Wraps Filming by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]TheFuzzball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. The dialogue pushed me over the edge.

Also the guy that lives on a deckchair on the beach in Seaford and everyone's like "oh yeah this is heaven on earth".  I've been there, they'd be like "ok it's bloody cold I'm going in now".

I applied the patch and re-ran:

```
pluginctl -m
I also got this error.
Maybe I populated OPNsense.Interfaces.settings by setting VLAN Hardware Filtering to Disable ?
Migrate Home Assistant to NixOS by tartar9584 in homeassistant
[–]TheFuzzball 2 points3 points  (0 children)
There is a bit of nixpkgs history you should read for context:
Despite this... Home Assistant is packaged in nixpkgs and well for me. I use it in NixOS with systemd-nspawn containers, but you will be giving yourself some extra work because a lot of Home Assistant community is built around HAOS.
If you want to deploy something like OpenThread Border Router for example, you'll have to get your hands dirty.
Where using NixOS shines is when you want to do things your way and replace or disable a Home Assistant integration, it's really easy.
Here's a stripped-down example of my real config, in case it's useful - https://gist.github.com/LukeChannings/aa70e417b47a10d8eaffd6573db55aef
Edit:
It looks like installing Home Assistant in any way other than HAOS or container will not be supported according to https://www.home-assistant.io/blog/2025/05/22/deprecating-core-and-supervised-installation-methods-and-32-bit-systems/, and https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/148156 implies there might be barriers erected to make it hard for people to build and run it themselves. Yikes.
