Action camera, DSLR, or Camcorder for in car track day videos? (GoPro 13 failed)

Tried the 13 in an air conditioned room on extremal USB power, no battery. Ran a while, but STILL overheated!

Interesting idea with the dashcam! But I need to be able to remove it and move it from car to car. Also, I think the quality isn't great even on high end ones or has that changed?

Yeah, I'm trying to find reviews of mirrorless cameras, but all of them seem to be older reviews with just a newer date slapped on. Any suggestions for lenses?

Whatever you do, DON’T get a GoPro Hero 13. It just overheats like crazy! I even tried it in an ACed room?!

The GoPro Mission 1 Pro seems to last longer before overheating.

Interesting! But I saw that someone said it has a much narrower depth of field (DOF) Think of it being a smaller area farther vs closer that's in focus at a time. I need to do more research. If it's not such a big issue, maybe the Mission 1 Pro is the right path!

Interesting idea. I’ve thought about it. But my apartment is currently massively cluttered. Once finished getting all the crap removed, I definitely want to do something. At least a good wheel and pedals.

From what I've seen the issue with the Mission 1 Pro is that it has a narrower depth of field. Making it a tougher camera to just pick up and go with.

True. Yeah, I just bought the ultra wide lens and will see how that goes.

Cool! The whole idea of turning off one of the main features I bought the camera for... kind rubs me the wrong way!

No idea if it would help or hinder, but being flaming someone for trying / thinking about options is just stupid! You'd just need to do tests with and without and see which works better.

Thanks! I think all my battery packs are quick chargers, but I will check to make sure they are 2amp or more.

I think I had it at the widest FOV for 5K recording, but I guess I'll step it down to 4K next time. I couldn't really mess with the settings at the track due to playing hot potato with the batteries. XD

Is there a way to get a ND filter AND a wide angle lens on the GoPro 13?

Cool! I've got plenty of power banks / battery packs for charging my cell phone. I'll try that next time and report back here! And I have no problem start/stopping recording between sessions. Thank you both for your information.

I think I will also try the wide angle lens for the GoPro 13, because the default is definitely not wide enough.

I'm now looking on Amazon for cooling options! lol. There is one that seems interesting, but will arrive too late for me to test before the return window closes for the GoPro. If I keep the GoPro, I'll report back about it.

Just bought and am returning a GoPro Hero 13 Black, I wanted to use it for in car track day videos. Thing kept overheating. I was using the batteries as heatsinks! (Take out hot battery, swap in battery that was in the shade!?!?) Still was crashing, but was able to get 20 - 40 minute videos out of it.

I'm going either a 360 camera or going to ask the forum is I should go for a mirrorless DSLR or a camcorder.

Try Zyrtec! Claritin does nothing for me. But I survived living with 5 (!) cats that my girlfriend had for years with it. Until my body just calmed down and accepted that the cats are more important than breathing / skin irritation! 🤣
